We hear a lot today about church growth and church growth is good. A healthy church should be growing just like a healthy person should grow. A healthy church cannot help but grow!

A lot of churches are starting to evaluate every program according to how much it helps the church grow. Evaluation is good and healthy as long as we look at the big picture. The big picture that I am talking about is the Kingdom of God.

Matt. 6:33 says that if we seek first the kingdom of God that all these things will be added unto us. We do not seek his kingdom to get what we want, but as we seek first the kingdom of God our lives and ministry cannot help but grow.

Church growth cannot be the only reason we do certain programs or cut certain programs in our local churches. There is a much higher calling to grow the kingdom of God.

Jesus said in the great commission to go into all the world and make disciples. Those people that need to be reached and discipled in all the world don’t just include people from our local communities that will attend our local churches.

A lot of times when people look at having a Kid’s Crusade or family outreach event they count how many families return after the event and judge whether they should continue having this kind of events in the future.

A lot of times we see great growth in our local churches from such events, but sometimes it does not effect the growth of our local body however it effects the growth of the kingdom of God.

Now I am not saying that we should not evaluate the effectiveness of a certain ministry or outreach events. We should evaluate everything we do to find out if it reached the goals we had for the event and how we can be more effective in reaching these goals during future events. However, our goal should not just be getting new people to come to our church. It should be part of it, but not the entire goal.

When I was on staff as a children’s pastor, I would ask myself what is the goal of any given event and how can we best achieve this goal. A lot of times we do an event just because we have always done this event.

When looking at the event of a traditional VBS and seeing the large budget it required and the manpower from our church, I would ask myself what the goal of VBS was. Was it to encourage the Christian children in our church to grow or to outreach into the community? Being the evangelist that I am and knowing that my children were well taught in children’s church my goal for most large events was outreach.

Then, I would ask myself if we were achieving that goal through the current VBS program. Most VBS curriculums are designed to teach bible truths around a certain theme for the year and not to see children born again and made disciples. VBS programs in some communities have turned into nothing more than a baby sitting service to the parents of the community. Kids jump from VBS to VBS every week during the summer just to have something to do while their parents are at work. Churches even work together to make sure that every week in the summer is covered by a different church and that everyone is not using the same curriculum. Most VBS curriculums have been watered down so that it is not offensive to anyone to get more children to attend. Sure there is a small amount of Bible in the curriculum, but in its self is not anything that will change a life for eternity.

After evaluating the program and seeing that my goal was outreach and evangelism, I decided to change to more of a Kids Crusade format. I do not call it a Kid’s Crusade because the un churched community does not understand the term and usually associate it with the crusades of the dark ages.

I have always been a kingdom minded person. Probably because Matt. 6:33 was one of the first scriptures that really came alive to me as a teen.

We will not always see church growth as a result of an event or program; however we must ask our self if the kingdom grew because of the event or program. Now I am not talking about loosely using the phrase …

“If we touched one child it is worth it”

It is worth it to touch the life of one child. We do not know what that child will become. Maybe this child might become the next Billy Graham or something. But why should we only touch the life of one child during the event? While we are touching their live why not touch the lives of hundreds more. If only one child is reached we should ask ourselves how we can reach more next time and make the adjustments to our program, advertising, and marketing of the event to the community to reach more people.

We recently ministered at a church that had us in and had small crowds each night. Mostly church kids and a few un churched friends attended. The same children came forward each evening during the invitation to be born again. A few people that did not attend the church came forward, but it was mostly the children from their church. I would say around 20 children were born again despite having around 50 children respond to the invitation during the 3 day event. I could see where the pastor might be discouraged and consider not having this type of event in the future because of the cost of the program and the results he saw.

No one new that a friend of mine from facebook attended the service from a neighboring town one of the evenings with a group of children including her 7 year old daughter. She had seen on facebook where we were going to be ministering at this church and wanted to come and check out our ministry.

After the event I received the following e-mail from my facebook friend…

"Thanks for inviting us. I'm sorry we couldn't make all three days. The kids I brought LOVED it, they want you to come to our church. My daughter who's 7 also came with me on Monday night. She has been telling people in her class and in our congregation how she is "born again" and "how God gave her a clean heart". This is HUGE coming from a very Traditional Presbyterian Church. So thank you. You have encouraged me to change my Sunday School curriculum and change the direction of my ministry to be more evangelism based. I'll be back in touch soon after speaking with our finance committee to discuss scheduling a Jubilee Gang event at our church.”

This was worth the whole event to see the lives of these young people changed and to see the possibility of an entire children’s ministry at another church become more evangelistic because of the children’s pastor attending this meeting.

I also received a testimony from a children’s pastor in VA that was born again at a Kids Crusade at a church that he did not attend and never attended except for the Kid’s Crusade where he was born again. Below is his story…

“When I was 5 years old my parents took me to see a traveling children’s evangelist who was ministering in a local church. At the end of the service I asked Jesus into my heart for the first time. My family and I never went back to that church but found ourselves planted in another local church where we grew in Christ.

I often think about that first church where I found Jesus. I’m so grateful that church had a kingdom mindset when it came to outreach. Many churches see the goal of outreach as a way to boost attendance numbers. Outreaches are evaluated by measurable returns, but the Bible reminds us that we’re here to build a kingdom…not just our own church.

I’m grateful for ministries like the Jubilee Gang who spend their time spreading the seed of God’s word into young hearts. And I’m grateful that this first church had a kingdom mindset that allowed me to hear the gospel for the first time. Their measurable return may be considered insufficient by many churches today but I will be eternally grateful to God for them.”

This is what it is all about folks! As a result of this church being kingdom minded this young child was born again and is now a children’s pastor at a large church that is affecting hundreds if not thousands of lives.

It would be wrong to not give a testimony from a church that did not see growth from a Kids crusade at their church. I received the following letter from a church in OK where a child was born again during the kids crusade and went home and told his mother about Christ and led her to the lord…

“Our pastor's wife was teaching a Wednesday night class and a mom was helping. The mom brought in her form that we have everyone fill out before they help in children's church. Pastor's wife looked at the form and saw that the mom got saved in October and asked her about it.

The mom's two kids came to the crusade and heard about being born again. The boy came to the front to pray. (That's awesome at that) That night when they got home, they told their mom about being born again and the mom got saved in her living room that night and has been faithful to church ever since.”

We would have never have know this if the pastor’s wife had not asked some questions. The kingdom was affected by this event!

When evaluating events and programs let make sure that we are not cutting a program that is affecting the Kingdom when we do not see our church numbers increase.

Why Ministry?

Why are we in ministry?

Why set a goal to be in full time ministry?

I have a cousin that was a full time youth minister. Everyday at lunch he would go to the YMCA and play basketball with the youth from the church and community.

One day one of his sons came to him and said, “Dad, I want to grow up and be a minister like you.” This made my cousin feel good that his son wanted to follow in his foot steps. As my cousin pursued this a little by asking his son why he wanted to be in ministry when he grew up? His bubble was popped when his son replied, “so I can get paid to play basketball everyday like you.” I do not think this was the answer my cousin was looking for.

A lot of times we want to be in ministry because it looks like an easy occupation. Any one with a successful ministry knows that ministry is spelled W.O.R.K.

A lot of times we want to be in ministry because our father and grandfather were in ministry before us, and we think we should follow in their footsteps. Some may think ministry looks glamorous from the outside. A lot of people see our ministry programs and say “Man I wish I could do this!” If they only had to walk in our shoes for a year the majority of them would want to quit. If all you see is our live ministry event it looks like a spectacular lifestyle. However, most people never

see all the behind the scenes of the day to day lifestyle that being on the road consist of. A lot of young aspiring ministers that have gotten to travel with us as interns are very excited at first about getting to travel and use all of our equipment. At first their commits always are “Man when I get my own ministry I want equipment just like this.” About half way through the tour season the statements change to “I don’t think I want to do this when I have my own ministry.

There is too much to set up and tear down. There is too much work involved. Too many hours spent traveling in a vehicle.“ If we do not have a genuine love for people and a desire to see the furtherance of the kingdom this lifestyle gets old real fast.

I believe we should ask ourselves periodically throughout our time in ministry why we are doing this. Over and over in the Bible we read that Jesus was moved with compassion when he ministered to people. When he healed the sick, when he raised the dead, when he multiplied the loaves and fishes to feed the multitude, and when he taught the crowds of people. The overwhelming love for people (compassion) was Jesus motivation to do what he did during his ministry on earth.

It was not that he felt it was his duty, it was not to make a name for himself, it

was not that it was the only thing he knew how to do, it was because he looked at the need and was moved with compassion. Compassion was the overwhelming love for people that motivated him to do something.

Why did God the father send his only son into the world to die on a cross? It was because he loved the world. He was moved with such an overwhelming love that he had to do something.

Our motivation in ministry should be the love God has put in our heart. The bible says in Romans 5:5 that the love of God has been put in our heart by the Holy Spirit. When we are born again we receive the life and nature of God. The Bible says in 1 John 4:8 that God is Love. It is his nature, His Character. When we are born again we are now born of God. His life and nature is inside of us.

1 John 4:7-11

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 Pet 1:3 says God has given us all things that pertain to life and Godliness (Godliness means having God like qualities) it’s up to us to allow this love to be the motivating factor of our lives.

2 Peter 1:4 says that we have been given exceeding great and precious promises that through these we might become partakers of the divine nature. What is the divine nature? 1 John 4:8 says that God is love. Where do we find these great and precious promises? We find it in the Word of God, the Bible.

As we renew our minds with God’s word it becomes part of our lives. The more it becomes part of our lives the more we become partakers of it. The Bible says in Romans 12:2 be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Be transformed into what? We should be transformed into the Image of Christ.

Eph. 4:15 says that we should grow up until we look like Christ. What does Christ look like? He looks like the father and the father is Love. Let this overwhelming love for people be the motivating factor in our lives and ministry.

We truly need to grow up until we look like Christ, so the world can see God in our lives. Let us be moved with compassion when we see a need.

Love for people and the furtherance of God’s Kingdom should be the motivating factor in our lives and ministry. I have always said true ministry is reaching people and touching Lives. Everything else is just stuff we have to do.

Before I had my own ministry, before anyone knew who Jerry Moyer of the Jubilee Gang was, and before anyone wanted to schedule us at their church, I did not wait on a big break. I did not hope that someday my schedule would be full. I starting going to the local housing projects in Southern Ohio because of the love in my heart for the people there. No one was reaching out to them and I saw a need. When I went to the local housing authority and asked if we could do a crusade in the projects, they told me that there had never been any preaching in the projects and there never would be.

I did not give up on what was in my heart to do. As I was reading the news paper one day, I saw where a professional base ball player had came back to our home town and started a anti drug program in the projects. I felt in my heart to go to that organization and tell them that the “Just say No” campaign was not working. Kids need something to say yes to so they can say no to drugs.

I offered to do an anti drug program for them that said say yes to Jesus so that you can say no to drugs. Anything to do with an anti drug message was welcome through this organization. Our first event in the local housing projects we saw around 100 people born again. This happened over and over in different projects around the area. Before long the projects were calling us.

As I put my hand to ministering in the local housing projects because of the love I had for the people God continued to open more and more doors to our ministry. First it was public schools. We offered them a free anti drug program in exchange for the use of the building that evening for a large event where we could present the Gospel. Our first public school outreach we had 250 children in the school and 180 people came out that night to hear the gospel. Almost every one of them came forward to be born again. Then, we opened our program up to churches and it has grown from there.

Let love be the motivating factor in everything we do. God has given us everything we need. Its up to us to use it!

It gets children involved in the class.

We must stay relevant to reach this generation.
The message never changes but the methods must change.

11 children born again in Parkersburg, WV today

We had an awesome day of ministry in Parkersburg, WV at the 19th St. Church of God. We did 2 family services today one at 10:30 AM & one at 6PM. Tomorrow night Monday Jan. 16th we will be ministering at a community wide outreach event at the 19th St. Church of God.

The Jubilee Gang will be ministering at the 19th St. Church of God in Parkersburg, WV on Sunday Jan. 15 AM & PM services and Monday night, Jan 16th. Come join us for this very fun weekend of ministry for kids and families. They will be with us in both the morning service at 10:30 AM Sunday and 6:00 PM on Sunday evening as well. We will also have a special rally with them on Monday evening the 16th at 7 PM. Please pass the invitation along to your friends and encourage them to come and hear the gospel of Jesus presented in a high-energy,light-filled and robotics kind of way. Monday night we are encouraging all of the area churches to bring their kids and join us for this special night. Why I still give altar calls or invitations to be born again.

Altar Call in Urbandale, IA where a whole family (Mom, Dad, son & 2 niece's ) came forward together to be born again! God is so awesome!!!

I realize that a lot of the church world has moved away from doing altarcalls during their services. Many people have questioned why I continue touse this method of evangelism. Let me start off by stating a few things thatI see that would cause leaders to shy away from this method.

1. I understand that just because someone comes forward during aservice does not mean that a change has taken place in their livesand many people have walked away confused.

2. Another reason would be because of abuse in the past with highpressure and preaching of hell fire and brimstone that would scarepeople into coming to the front to receive Christ into their lives sothat they would miss hell. When people are scared into comingforward it sometimes causes more harm than good.

3. I also realize that there is no biblical example of altar calls in thebible and that it is a method that the modern church world hasadapted for evangelism.

Saying all this, I still like to invite people forward to receive Christ duringmy services. I am always sensitive to the churches that I am ministering inand the fear factor of the people in the audience to come forward. In somechurches people are more reluctant to come forward to receive Christ. Andwhen I sense they are, I usually just pray with people where they are intheir seats.

When I do give an invitation to come forward to be born again, I almostdiscourage people from coming forward. Yet the front is always lined withpeople receiving Christ. I have been in many services in the past whereyoung people went forward just to get close to the person on stage orhoping to get a special gift or something for coming forward. I have hadchildren in the past come forward expecting to get candy or to play a game.When I invite people to come to the front to receive Jesus and to be bornagain, I am very specific about who I want to come forward. I always tell theaudience not to come forward to get close to me, see the lights, play agame, or get a prize. I tell them not to come forward because their neighbordoes or they think it’s cool. The only people that I want to come forward arethe ones that are serious and understand what I am talking about. I tellthem that if they do not understand or are confused not to come forward.I am also very specific about what being born again is during my service. I do not just tag an invitation on the end of each service as an afterthought.If I give an invitation to be born again, I spend a little time teaching on thesubject.

I believe that faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). Ifthe word is not taught on the subject, how can a person have faith toreceive salvation? When an invitation is tagged on the end of each servicewithout any explanation of what we are asking people to respond to, it hascaused a lot of confusion in the past.

I am not saying that everyone that has been born again truly understoodeverything about salvation. God is much bigger than that. I was 6 years oldwhen I was born again. I went forward on New Years Eve in my father’schurch. No one even prayed with me but, I knew that I was changed thatday. I went home and told my mother that I had become a Christian that night.

A lot of people in the world today have many misconceptions about being aChristian. Many believe that it is anything from being a good person tobelonging to a church makes one a Christian.

In the past I have been accused of herding people to the front duringinvitations. This is why I have become so specific in whom I want to comeforward. I also qualify people before I ask them to come forward. I first askhow many know for sure that they have been born again. With all eyesclosed and heads bowed, I ask them to raise their hands. Then I tell themthat if they have been born again that they do not have to keep being bornagain over and over. If they mess up and sin that the bible says in 1 John1:9 that if we confess our sin that he is faithful and just to forgive us. Thisdoes not mean that we have to keep getting born again and again.Next, I ask how many have never been born again or are not sure that theyhave been. With all eyes closed and heads bowed, I ask them to raise theirhands. Then I ask for the people that have never been born again andwould like to receive this gift to stand up, but only if they are serious andunderstand what I am talking about. Don’t stand up because you wantexercise, because your neighbor does it, or you think it is cool, butbecause you truly want to become born again.

After waiting a little while to give people a chance to stand up if they wantto receive Christ, I then tell them that I want them to do one more thing.But before I do I tell them, I do not want them to come forward to get closeto me, play a game, see the lights, or receive a prize. I ask them that if theyare serious and understand what I am talking about to come forward. Nopressure, no fear, no manipulation, only if this is what they truly want fortheir lives. 9 out of 10 times the front is lined with people receiving Christ.After I get them to the front, I sit them down on the floor around me and askthem what they came down here for. Usually a few children raise theirhands and answer to be born again or to ask Jesus into my life. I then askthe group if this is why everyone came down front. I proceed to tell themthat this is the only reason I want them down here right now. Then I tellthem that I am going to say a prayer, and I want them to repeat it after me. Ialways ask them if they know that just because they repeat a prayer doesnot do anything for them. When we pray we are talking to God, so I wantyou to mean this from your heart. If you pray this to God, and you believe itin your heart, and are serious, he will come in and change you on theinside. I always include the whole audience in the prayer. And I tell all inattendance that even if they did not come forward and have not askedJesus in their life, that they can be born again right where they are.I never threaten with hell or in any way scare people into coming forward. Ibelieve that it is the goodness of God that brings man to repentance. Whenpeople understand the good news of the gospel and that the price hasalready been paid for them, they will want to receive this gift that has been offered to them.

By coming forward it is making a public profession of their faith. It letseveryone there know what they did. People have more of a grip on it whenthey come forward than just repeating a prayer in their seats. It is a morepersonal environment where I can get close to them and lead them intosalvation.

There is a new trend that teaches that it is the parent’s job to lead thechildren into the new birth. I do not disagree with this. Ultimately it shouldbe the parent that prays with their children to be born again. I prayed withmy son to be born again while driving in a car when he was just a child. Butto be honest about this, a lot of parents do not have a firm grip on whatbeing born again is themselves, or are not comfortable discussing it withtheir children. I pray that this changes.

If we always put it in the parents ball park and they drop the ball, or maybethey are not even born again themselves, or they do not go to churchthemselves, do we let these children creep through the cracks of oursystem? There must be a time where children have a chance to be bornagain while they are attending our services. It must be high on our prioritylist for children coming up through our churches.

I am in no means saying that this is the only way or even the best way tolead people to the Lord, but it is what works for me. The best way would befor churches to go into their communities and personally lead people to thelord individually. If every person in every church would lead at least one ortwo people to the lord each year our churches would double or triple eachyear. Unfortunately, this is not happening. Even in churches that teach thismethod of evangelism or was founded on the premise of personalevangelism. Somewhere it always seems we loose our site of the missionin front of us and leave it up to evangelist like myself, to come into thechurch and evangelize the small group of the community that will come outto the event that the church is offering.

I pray we as the body of Christ will rise up and take back this generation.

You know you have experienced revival when…

In Jan. 2011 Our local church concluded a 28 week revival. One night during worship toward the end of the revival the following list came to me and I wrote it down in my notes on my phone.

You know you have experienced revival when…

1. When you start laying aside all weights & sin that gets in between you and God.

2. When you have a renewed love & passion for the things if God.

3. When you begin to serve God with not just your mouth but our actions.

4. When you fervently serve God not just at church but every day of the week everywhere you go.

5. When you get so full of God that his presence begins to overflow in your life and begins to touch those around you.

6. When nothing else satisfies you, but more of God.

7. When you become so desperate for God that you do whatever it takes to get Him.

8. When your desires become God’s desires.

9. When your love for God becomes so strong that you just can't help but tell others.

10. When the fire of God in your life becomes so big that people start to come from all around to watch you burn.

11. When you submit yourself to God so much, that the change in your life becomes so evident that people can't help but notice and start to ask you what is different.

12. When the desire to be in God’s presence is so strong that you don't ask if you should go to church, but nothing can keep you from going to church.

13. When your love for God is so strong that you would never dishonor him by allowing sin in your life

14. When you love God so much you can't help but worship him not just at church but every day through your lifestyle.

16. When you love God so much that you don't have to be manipulated to give. You can’t help but to give because you love Him and his works so much.

17. When you rediscover your first love. The feeling & passion you had when you were first born again.

18. When you don't need to be led into worship, you just enter in.

19. When it ceases to be about us and it becomes about him.

20. Instead of constantly seeking a blessing from God you become a blessing from God.

Revival is a lifestyle.

Someone once said " I would rather live a fasted lifestyle than go on and off of periods of fasting."

I personally would rather live a revival lifestyle than attend a series of meetings.

The reason we need a series of meetings is that we are so dead we need to be jump started.

After we have been jump started we should be able to keep the charge.

Actually this list is the lifestyle that a christian ought to be living in the first place, but because we become distracted from the things of God and become spiritually dead we need to be revived.

TOUCHING LIVE'S IN 2011

Every year before our touring season we always pray that God opens the doors to the churches and communities that need our ministry the most. God did open so many doors this touring season to so many wonderful churches with people that had a heart to reach out to their communities. We had and awesome year of ministry with 700 salivations and thousand of lives touch. We ministered 75 times in 22 churches and 2 camps. It was such an amazing touring season with so many touching stories that we would like to share a few of them with you.

In June, we ministered at Faith Family Church in Glastonbury, CT where we did a children/family event and we also partnered with them to do an outreach in a local housing project in New Haven, CT. After the outreach was over a young boy came up to one of the workers and told her, "That was fun! You guys should come back every Saturday!" PTL that's what it is all about reaching and touching lives for Christ.

In July, we ministered in Floral Park, NY at Christ Assembly of God. It was such a blessing to minister at this church. The entire congregation was of Indian descent (from India). Most of them have lived in America a while with their children being born in America. We had such an awesome time with this church, not only in our ministry time but also getting to know them. When we were pulling out slowly to leave, we had 3 young girls running along side of our Suburban saying, "We are going to miss you! Come back again! We love you." It really touched our hearts.

In August, we minister at Deland Nazarene in Deland, FL and Living Waters Fellowship in Chico, TX. Both of these churches were in smaller towns but had such a heart for their communities. Each night the crowds grew with unchurched people from their community. It was awesome to see lives transformed. In the church in Chico, TX one night 2 men came forward to be born again. They were both skate boarders at the park and someone from the church had invited them. PTL!

We also had some very touching testimonies shared with us. We received an email from a parent that said, "My children and myself were so blessed to meet you. We are out side working concentrating on what we are doing and out of no where comes the things you taught us for example: Jesus said you must be, you must be born again and we all join in and go nuts with it. They remember ever bit of what you taught. We appreciate you both dearly. God bless and thank you.!!!!" Another one came from a father in Chico, TX which reads. "Well ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to the NEWEST Born-Again Moore Family member as of tonight, August 15, 2011:Jackson Dewayne Moore... My Son...A NEW CREATION in Christ! At the Altar call tonight at Pastor Robert Cox's Church in Chico, when the invitation was given, Little Jackson, that is 5, raised his hand on his own, bowed at the altar on his own, and received JESUS CHRIST AS Lord and Savior...I am one PROUD DADDY!!!! Praise the Lord!"

And one final testimony was at a children's camp in Ingleside, IL a lady share with us that her grandson went forward during an altar call to get closer to God. When she asked him about it he told her, "Grandma, I got Altered!"

We had such an amazing and blessed year. We met so many wonderful people and saw so many lives touched during our 2011 touring season.

Jubilee Gang Ministries Building Project Update

Today Dec. 17th 2011 the driveway for tne building was put in. The next step will be laying the asphalt in the spring then finishing off the inside so we can start filming children's programing for the Internet & DVD.

When this building is finished it will give us much needed space to base our ministry out of and will house a video studio where we will be able to film and edit video. It will also give us space to store, set up, and work on our equipment. Right now we can only work on it while we are on the road. And we store our equipment in our trailer all winter which is not good for all the electronic components. This will help us to be able to take our ministry to the next level and eventually it will house our offices.The Building is costing $40,000 to put up plus the finishing off of the inside including insulation & electric.

Dear friends and partners,

As the Christmas season is upon us I am reminded of the greatest Christmas Gift that was ever given. The birth of God's son into the world to redeem us back from the devil "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that who so ever believeth on Him will have eternal life." This is a very familiar verse to most of us and it would be easy to just quote it really fast and jump past it when we see it written out. However, there is a lot contained in this verse that we can miss if we do that.
The reason God gave us Jesus is because he loved the world. While we were yet sinners God loved us. While we were still by nature against him, He loved us so much that he gave his only Son.
In 1 Cor. 13:4-8 we find what most people call the love chapter. These verses describe the God kind of love or God's love toward us. This is the same love that we receive when we are born again and receive God's nature in our lives. In the King James version of the bible the translators used the word charity instead of love. As I was growing up I always wondered why the translators used the word charity. It seemed like two totally different things to me. As I investigated the word charity more I discovered that it means loving someone so much that you give. This is truly the God kind of love. When you love someone so much that you give. True love is not about us it's about others. It's about seeing a need and doing something about it.
This Christmas season let us follow the God kind of love and be a blessing to others instead of it being all about us and what we can get. God loved the world so much that he gave his most prized possession for the betterment of the world. So that we could be brought back into relationship with our heavenly father. For this is the true meaning of Christmas!
As we celebrate the birth of the greatest gift ever given, we pray that you and your family have a wonderful Christmas Celebration. We are so grateful for all our partners, friends, and family. We are also grateful to a wonderful home church for allowing us to travel ministering to children and be on staff! And, all their support and prayers. God Bless all of you and Merry Christmas!

Dear friends and partners,
We have had 2 awesome weeks ministering at 2 camps in IN & IL.

First we ministeried at the IN, IL, IA district 4 Square Kids camp in Ingleside, IL where we saw 35 children born again and many others flooded the altars every night to seek a deeper relationship with God and experenced a mighty outporing of the Holy Spirit! A grandmaw told me that she had saw her grandson respond to an altar call to get closer to God. When she asked her Grandson about his experence he said" Grandmaw, I got Altared! Maybe we all should be altared like this young man from time to time.

The 2nd week we ministered at the Indianapolis, IN district Nazarene Kids camp where we saw 56 children born again and many children touched by God and called to ministry during the week. I read a praise report on a Children's Pastor's Facebook page where a mother told her that the 1st thing her son said when he got home from camp was " Mommy, I got born again!" That's truly what it is all about! seeing lives changed and people coming into the Kingdom of God.

Over the next few weeks we will be ministering in OH, IN, NY, and FL. We are expecting to see God do awesome things during the rest of the summer and into the fall!

Our local church just finished a 28 week revival. One night during worship toward the end of the revival the following list came to me and I wrote it down in my notes on my phone.

You know you have experienced revival when…

1. When you start laying aside all weights & sin that gets in between you and God.

2. When you have a renewed love & passion for the things if God.

3. When you begin to serve God with not just your mouth but our actions.

4. When you fervently serve God not just at church but every day of the week everywhere you go.

5. When you get so full of God that his presence begins to overflow in your life and begins to touch those around you.

6. When nothing else satisfies you, but more of God.

7. When you become so desperate for God that you do whatever it takes to get Him.

8. When your desires become God’s desires.

9. When your love for God becomes so strong that you just can't help but tell others.

10. When the fire of God in your life becomes so big that people start to come from all around to watch you burn.

11. When you submit yourself to God so much, that the change in your life becomes so evident that people can't help but notice and start to ask you what is different.

12. When the desire to be in God’s presence is so strong that you don't ask if you should go to church, but nothing can keep you from going to church.

13. When your love for God is so strong that you would never dishonor him by allowing sin in your life

14. When you love God so much you can't help but worship him not just at church but every day through your lifestyle.

16. When you love God so much that you don't have to be manipulated to give. You can’t help but to give because you love Him and his works so much.

17. When you rediscover your first love. The feeling & passion you had when you were first born again.

18. When you don't need to be led into worship, you just enter in.

19. When it ceases to be about us and it becomes about him.

20. Instead of constantly seeking a blessing from God you become a blessing from God.

Revival is a lifestyle.
Someone once said " I would rather live a fasted lifestyle than go on and off of periods of fasting.
I would rather live a revival lifestyle than attend a series of meetings.
The reason we need a series of meetings is that we are so dead we need to be jump started.
After we have been jump started we should be able to keep the charge.

Actually this is the lifestyle that a christian ought to be living in the first place, but because we become distracted from the things of God and become spiritually dead we need to be revived.

Children's Ministry or Entertainment?

Over the years we have seen new ideas incorporated into children’s ministry such as; games, multi media, and technology at the expense of watering down the gospel message.

We use most of these methods during our Jubilee Gang events. However, the purpose of our events are not to just entertain and wow the children, but to lay a firm foundation from the word of God that they can build upon to strengthen their faith in Jesus.

Our Goal as the Jubilee Gang is to see as many men, woman, boys, and girls make a legitimate decision to be born again. To many time we have seen people herded to the altar to be saved without fully understanding what is happening to them.

True faith comes from the word of God, The Bible. Without teaching the bible in a way that people can understand they will not have faith to receive what is being offered to them.

If we play games for an hour, wow our audiences with multiple special effects and shout a few scriptures, then how do we expect them to be able to make a legitimate decision to follow Jesus?

We encourage people to use all these methods to teach, but the message cannot get lost in the methods. The word of God needs to always come first in everything we do and all these methods are used to reinforce the message.

By all means use all the new methods the world has to offer to make your lessons the more exciting. Make your Children’s Church the most exciting, spectacular, experience possible for children but, don’t replace sound biblical teaching and anointing with all fun and games. Ask yourself, do I want to have a service or a circus?

We must stay relevant to reach this generation. The message never changes, but the method must change. Games, multi media, lighting effects, and video are all very effective ways to get the message across. But if they replace sound biblical teaching and anointing we will produce a generation of fluffy Christians with no spiritual backbone.

We have had 2 Awesome events the last 2 weeks. On Sept. 26-28 we ministered at Dynamic Life Praise and Worship Center in Front Royal VA and on Oct. 4-6 we ministered at Christian Life assembly in Picayune, MS. Between these 2 events we saw around 90 people born again.

Dear Friends and Partners:

We have had an awesome 2 weeks ministering at 4 churches in OH,
KY, MO, & OK, during these 4 events we saw 113 people born again including
several teens and adults. We also saw 7 children and one adult filled with the
Holy Spirit during our event in MO.

Next week we will be at Cornerstone Church in Cheshire, CT on
Sunday August 22 thru Tuesday August 24 and we will be doing a inner city
outreach at an inner city ministry in CT on Wednesday August 25th. Then we will
be at Fountain for Life Church in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Saturday August
28th through Sunday August 29th. We then travel to Marcy, NY on Monday August 30
through Wednesday September 1st.

We had an awesome 3 day event in Blackshear, GA at New Life Assembly of God. We saw 43 people born again during this event including several teens.

We will be ministering at London Church of the Nazarene on Aug. 8-10 and at Heritage International Christian Church in Radcliff, KY on Aug. 11.

Jubilee Gang Update for July 12-22

Dear Friends and Partners:

Over the last 2 weeks we ministered at 2 camps.

On July 12-15 we ministered at the North MO District AG kids camp where we saw 33 children born again, many live touched by God, and kids called to ministry. We saw an awesome outpouring of the Holy Spirit during the altar calls with many children seeking more of God and his plan for their lives

And on July 19-22 we ministered at the Upstate NY District Nazarene Kids Camp where we saw 20 children born again and many lives touched.

We saw The Holy Spirit move in a mighty way during the camps we ministered at this year.

We are ministering in Dalton, GA now (July 25-27) and will be ministering in Columbus, MS Wed. - Fri. (July 28-30) before we get to go home for a couple days. Then we head back to South GA where we will be ministering in Blackshear, GA at New Life AG on Aug. 4-6.

Jubilee Gang Update for June 28- July 9th

Dear friends and partners:

We have had an awesome week and a 1/2 ministering in 2 churches and one Camp. During these 3 events we saw 144 people born again.
On June 28-30 we ministered at Trinity Lighthouse Church in Denison, TX
On July 2-3 we ministered at Faith Triumph Church in Portales, NM
and on July 5-9 we ministered at the New Mexico District Nazarene Kids Camp in Capitan, NM where we saw an awesome outpouring of the Holy Spirit during the ministry time at the end of each service. 2 nights we saw the altars packed with over 100 children seeking more of God and basking in his presence.

This week we will be ministering at the North Missouri District Assemblies of God Kids Camp in Excelsior Springs, MO and then we go home for 2 days before heading out to the upstate NY District Nazarene Kids Camp on July 19-22. We are expecting to see God do awesome things during these 2 camps.

We have an awesome kick off to our summer tour season. We started off in
Fayetteville, AR at Christian Life Cathedral on June 16-18 where we saw 79
people born again.

Then we headed south to Mississippi where we ministered at Sandtown Untied
Methodist Church in Philadelphia, MS on June 20-23 and Coopers Chapel United
Methodist church in Quitman, MS on June 24-26. Between these 2 churches we saw around 28 people born again including several teen boys in Quitman, MS.

Tomorrow we travel to Denison, TX where we will be ministering
at Trinity Lighthouse Church on June 28-30 and then on to Portales, NM where we
will be ministering at Faith Triumphant Church on July 2-3

We had an awesome week in Ellettsville, IN at Ellettsville 1st assembly of God.

We saw 29 children born again and many come forward to receive the call to ministry on the last night.

Why Ministry?

Why are we in ministry?

Why set a goal to be in full time ministry?

I have a cousin that was a full time youth minister. Everyday at lunch he would go to the YMCA and play basketball with the youth from the church and community.

One day one of his sons came to him and said, “Dad, I want to grow up and be a minister like you.” This made my cousin feel good that his son wanted to follow in his foot steps. As my cousin pursued this a little by asking his son why he wanted to be in ministry when he grew up? His bubble was popped when his son replied, “so I can get paid to play basketball everyday like you.” I do not think this was the answer my cousin was looking for.

A lot of times we want to be in ministry because it looks like an easy occupation. Any one with a successful ministry knows that ministry is spelled W.O.R.K.

A lot of times we want to be in ministry because our father and grandfather were in ministry before us, and we think we should follow in their footsteps. Some may think ministry looks glamorous from the outside. A lot of people see our ministry programs and say “Man I wish I could do this!” If they only had to walk in our shoes for a year the majority of them would want to quit. If all you see is our live ministry event it looks like a spectacular lifestyle. However, most people never
see all the behind the scenes of the day to day lifestyle that being on the road consist of. A lot of young aspiring ministers that have gotten to travel with us as interns are very excited at first about getting to travel and use all of our equipment. At first their commits always are “Man when I get my own ministry I want equipment just like this.” About half way through the tour season the statements change to “I don’t think I want to do this when I have my own ministry.

There is too much to set up and tear down. There is too much work involved. Too many hours spent traveling in a vehicle.“ If we do not have a genuine love for people and a desire to see the furtherance of the kingdom this lifestyle gets old real fast.

I believe we should ask ourselves periodically throughout our time in ministry why we are doing this. Over and over in the Bible we read that Jesus was moved with compassion when he ministered to people. When he healed the sick, when he raised the dead, when he multiplied the loaves and fishes to feed the multitude, and when he taught the crowds of people. The overwhelming love for people (compassion) was Jesus motivation to do what he did during his ministry on earth.

It was not that he felt it was his duty, it was not to make a name for himself, it
was not that it was the only thing he knew how to do, it was because he looked at the need and was moved with compassion. Compassion was the overwhelming love for people that motivated him to do something.

Why did God the father send his only son into the world to die on a cross? It was because he loved the world. He was moved with such an overwhelming love that he had to do something.

Our motivation in ministry should be the love God has put in our heart. The bible says in Romans 5:5 that the love of God has been put in our heart by the Holy Spirit. When we are born again we receive the life and nature of God. The Bible says in 1 John 4:8 that God is Love. It is his nature, His Character. When we are born again we are now born of God. His life and nature is inside of us.

1 John 4:7-11
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 Pet 1:3 says God has given us all things that pertain to life and Godliness (Godliness means having God like qualities) it’s up to us to allow this love to be the motivating factor of our lives.

2 Peter 1:4 says that we have been given exceeding great and precious
promises that through these we might become partakers of the divine
nature. What is the divine nature? 1 John 4:8 says that God is love. Where do we find these great and precious promises? We find it in the Word of God, the Bible.

As we renew our minds with God’s word it becomes part of our lives. The more it becomes part of our lives the more we become partakers of it. The Bible says in Romans 12:2 be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Be transformed into what? We should be transformed into the Image of Christ.

Eph. 4:15 says that we should grow up until we look like Christ. What does Christ look like? He looks like the father and the father is Love. Let this overwhelming love for people be the motivating factor in our lives and ministry.

We truly need to grow up until we look like Christ, so the world can see God in our lives. Let us be moved with compassion when we see a need.

Love for people and the furtherance of God’s Kingdom should be the motivating factor in our lives and ministry. I have always said true ministry is reaching people and touching Lives. Everything else is just stuff we have to do.

Before I had my own ministry, before anyone knew who Jerry Moyer of the Jubilee Gang was, and before anyone wanted to schedule us at their church, I did not wait on a big break. I did not hope that someday my schedule would be full. I starting going to the local housing projects in Southern Ohio because of the love in my heart for the people there. No one was reaching out to them and I saw a need. When I went to the local housing authority and asked if we could do a crusade in the projects, they told me that there had never been any preaching in
the projects and there never would be.

I did not give up on what was in my heart to do. As I was reading the news paper one day, I saw where a professional base ball player had came back to our home town and started a anti drug program in the projects. I felt in my heart to go to that organization and tell them that the “Just say No” campaign was not working. Kids need something to say yes to so they can say no to drugs.

I offered to do an anti drug program for them that said say yes to Jesus so that you can say no to drugs. Anything to do with an anti drug message was welcome through this organization. Our first event in the local housing projects we saw around 100 people born again. This happened over and over in different projects around the area. Before long the projects were calling us.

As I put my hand to ministering in the local housing projects because of the love I had for the people God continued to open more and more doors to our ministry. First it was public schools. We offered them a free anti drug program in exchange for the use of the building that evening for a large event where we could present the Gospel. Our first public school outreach we had 250 children in the school and 180 people came out that night to hear the gospel. Almost every one of them came forward to be born again. Then, we opened our program up to churches
and it has grown from there.

Let love be the motivating factor in everything we do. God has given us
everything we need. Its up to us to use it!

Jubilee Gang Update for April 18-24

We have had an awesome week this week. On Sunday through Wed. we ministered at Grace Christian Church in Sterling Heights, MI during the Living Faith Crusade with Kenneth & Lynette Hagin.

During this event in MI we saw 76 children come forward to be born again. The Alters were packed several nights with children seeking after more of God.

On this Saturday evening April 24th we held our first Ignition 4 Kids event at our home church in Springfield, OH. Over 200 people were in attendance from several churches around OH.
During this event we saw 36 children born again and the alters were packed with children seeking after more of God. Many lives were touched by the power of God during this event.

Ignition for Kids is a one night Kids / family ministry event that will Ignite more fire and passion for God in your children and children's ministry leaders.

Teaching children about Salvation

There is much confusion today about what it means to be a Christian. It is very important that what we teach children about their relationship with God is accurate. When we just teach children that salvation is “being friends with God” or “having Jesus as their best friend” we are not exactly presenting the full scope of what being a Christian really is. I can be friends with you, but it does not change my life for eternity. It does not give me eternal life. Yes, Jesus should be our best friend and we need to develop our relationship with God but that is a byproduct of the change that occurs in our heart when we are born again.

Some misconceptions in our society about being a Christian are that going to church makes one a Christian, praying and reading the bible makes one a Christian, being born in a Christian family or attending a Christian church makes one a Christian. Or even being religious, following a churches statement of faith, rules, or regulations, or just being a good person makes one a Christian. Most of these things are good and help us grow spiritually, but do not make one a Christian.

When a religious leader came to Jesus in John chapter 3 he asked Jesus what I must do to enter your kingdom. Jesus did not say belong to a certain church, obey more rules, or become more religious. He told Nicodemus you must be born again.

Now there has been a lot of confusion about what exactly being born again is. Is it just a decision to follow Christ, or is it a transformation of the heart of a person?
If it is no more than making a decision to follow Christ without a change on the inside being a Christian is no different than being a Buddhist, Hindu, or Muslim. It is simply just a religion that we have joined.

What sets Christianity apart from all other religions is the supernatural change that takes place in our spirit man. This is the good news. We do not have to serve God in our own power. He changes us on the inside and gives us his very life and nature so that we can serve him. Its not just rules and regulations he puts the law in our heart when he puts his love in our heart. Rom. 5:5 says that the love of God has been put in our heart by the Holy Spirit. The bible also says that Love is the fulfillment of the law. If we love God and our neighbor we have fulfilled the law.

In Ezek 36:26-28 Ezekiel prophesied “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.“ Here Ezekiel was talking about the change that would take place in the lives of believers after Jesus came and paid the price for our salvation.

I know the term “born again” was over used a few years ago when everyone from presidential candidates to movie stars said they were born again Christians. The term got drug through the mud and no one really knew what it meant, so we quit using it. The world asked what does “Born Again Christian” mean and no one knew, so we came up with terms like having Jesus in our heart and being friends with God.

When Adam ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and disobeyed God something happened to Adam. He died. Not physically because we know from scripture that he lived for many years after the fall. He died spiritually. He was separated from God. When this happened he laid the foundation for all man kind to be born separated from God or dead spiritually.

That’s why the bible calls him the first Adam and calls Jesus the second Adam in 1 Cor. 15:45. In 1 Cor. 15:22 the bible says as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.

As in the word of the Christian rapper, Tripp Lee “The bad news we were born in sin, The good news we can be born again.”

In order to be restored to the place where God had created us to be we needed a total transformation of our spirit man or be born again. When we receive Christ we are born into God’s family. We are not just adopted but born into it.

The Bible says in 1 Cor. 1:13 that we were delivered out of the kingdom of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God. Or in other words, we are taken out of the kingdom of darkness and put into the kingdom of God. When I see this word translated I always think of the transporter room in the old Star Trek program. We were taken from one place and put into another into another.

The bible also says in 2 Cor 5:17 that if we are in Christ we are a new creation. Old things have passed away, all things have become new. This does not simply sound like a decision to follow Christ or being friends with God to me. It sounds like a total transformation of the heart.

With out this change in our spirit man we have simply became religious or joined a religion. Without the supernatural element of being born again we have a form of Godliness but deny the power. We have dead religion that we have to strive to be good enough and follow the rules and regulations. When the good news is that Jesus paid the price with his blood on the cross for our salvation, and all we have to do is receive the free gift that God offers us.

Without the blood of Jesus being shed we cannot be born again. Today, we live in a bloodless society. We don’t even see our meat being processed any more. We only see the pre packaged meat that we buy in the store. But Christianity is a bloody religion. From the sacrifices of the Old Testament that God commanded to cover the sin of Israel to the Blood of Jesus being shed to take away our sin in the New Testament. The Bible says in Heb. 9:22 without the shedding of blood there is no remission or taking away of sin.

Now, I am not talking about being graphic and gory with children. I would never scare a child for anything. But we cannot leave the blood out of our faith or teaching. It is the very basic element of our faith. That’s why Jesus commanded us to takes the Lord’s Supper or communion was to put us in remembrance of his sacrifice for us.

I am not a huge fan of the term “having Jesus in our heart” either. The Bible says that Jesus is at the right hand of the father making intercession for us in Romans 8:34. I understand what we mean when we say that Jesus is living in our heart but Jesus himself is not living in us. His life and nature is in us. His character is in us. The love of God is in us. The 1 Cor. 13 kind of love is what is in us.

I realize that some of this is quit technical and is not presented on a Child’s level. Instead of talking about our nature being changed from sin to love, I talk about when Adam disobeyed God he received a sinful heart. We all are born with a sinful heart because of Adam’s disobedience. He represented all of us. When we are born again we receive a clean heart. I then explain what this means on a child’s level.

I had heard the terms Jesus died on the cross for our sin, born again, being saved, and all the other Christian terminology that is thrown around lightly my entire life growing up as a pastor’s child. But I did not understand it, until I became an adult and researched it out for my self. Sadly to say that many people grow up in our churches hearing these terms and never fully understand it. Then walk away from the faith because it was not presented in a way that made sense to them when they were older. It was presented like a fairy tale or Santa Claus and when they were old enough to think for their selves, they realize it did not make sense and walked away from the faith.

We as the body of Christ need to get back to teaching what “being born again is” so that the children and teens growing up in our churches understand it. If not when they become adults they will see no difference in Christianity, Buddhism, or Hinduism and will walk away from their faith and the church.

We had an awesome time this weekend in Culloden, WV at Tabernacle of Praise Church of God.

We did a kids / family outreach event on Friday & Saturday evenings and a family event on Sunday morning. On Saturday morning we did a teacher training session for around 30 Children's Ministry workers from around the state of WV.

we had a very busy but productive weekend in WV. We saw 22 children born again during our services Friday & Saturday and one adult on Sunday morning.

Russia Trip Update

I had an awesome time ministering in Russia. On the first Sunday we were in Russia we were able to minister at a local Russian church in Sosnovyy Bor for their children’s church and then I was able to conduct a family service the second Sunday.

I was also able to do our “What is a Christian” program in a government ran Orphanage. We were not able to give an altar call or pray with the children, however the Gospel was clearly presented in a fun and exciting way. The children were on the edge of their seats as they listened intensely to the Gospel message. Some of them had never heard this message before. After presenting the program I was able to tell them that if they ever wanted this experience of being born again that they could pray anytime and anywhere and God would change their hearts and give them this experience of being born again. It was awesome to see these children participate in this program and have a good time as they learned from the Bible what a Christian really is.

I was also able to conduct 2 training sessions for Russian Children’s workers where I taught for about 25 to 30 minutes, then answered questions about an hour and a half to two hours. It was awesome to be able to compare ideas with the Russian children’s ministers and see how much we really have in common.

We also visited a home for troubled teens, a drug rehab center, and several home meetings where we were able to give encouraging words and minister the word.
We do not know for sure how many people were born again. However, this was an awesome time of planting seeds into Russian churches and people.

The thing that stuck out the most about the trip was the hunger and desire of the Russian church to receive all that God has for them. There is a real need for the American church to come along side the Russian church and Russian believers to be an encouragement and a blessing to them. Around 20 years ago when Communism fell the American church flooded Russia with evangelist and missionaries. As time went on the American church has forgotten about Russia and concentrated on other areas of the world. Russia needs us more than ever to come along side them and work with them to reach their country with the gospel. If a Russian church is not Russian Orthodox they are considered a cult. The Government and media spreads propaganda against these churches, so that most Russians have a bad attitude with any church that is not Russian Orthodox. Also, it is considered unpatriotic if you do not attend a Russian Orthodox Church. This makes it very hard to spread the Gospel in Russia. After the fall of communism people were hungry for the truth, however as time went on the hunger for God has decreased and the desire for material things has taken its place with the new found freedom.

Our local church here in Springfield, OH has an awesome relationship with a Russian church in Sosnovyy Bor, Russia. We are like sister churches. We encourage each other, share resources, and travel to each other’s churches as much as possible. It would be awesome to see more American churches partner with local Russian churches and pastors to see the Kingdom increase in Russia.

Things I learned about Russian Culture:

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 1: Most Russians live in high rise Apartment buildings called flats and have very small living space.

Things I have learned about Russian Culture part 2: Most Russian homes cannot adjust the heat up and down in their homes. If it gets too hot they open the window.

Things I have learned about Russian Culture part 3: Russians put Sour Cream in and on a lot of things. They even like a table spoon in soup

Things I have learned about Russian Culture Part 4: Russian furniture is very low to the ground and usually very hard.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 5: Offer a Russian official a bribe (gift) and you'll probably get what you want and get it a lot faster.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 6: If your church is not Russian Orthodox you are considered a CULT by government & most people.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 7: The hot water in Russian sinks is Very Hot! It will scald you if it is barely on!

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 8: when eating in Russia don't eat too much soup. Save room for the 2nd & 3rd course or you will get too full! Then comes the Tea!!!

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 9: Russian hospitality is like southern hospitality! As soon as you walk in the door they start trying to feed you and give you Tea! They do not take no for an answer either.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 10: Russians don't shovel their sidewalks. They walk on over a foot or more of padded down snow. Don't step off the path or you will sink in 2 foot of snow!

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 11: Russians eat some kind of soup for at least one meal each day. Sometimes More!

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 12: Russian bathrooms consists of 2 rooms 1 has the toilet the other has a bath tub, sink, and a washing machine. No dryers. Not much room to turn around in either room. Just do your business and leave.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 13: Don't ever burp in Russia! It equals passing gas!

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 14: Russian drivers think nothing of driving 60 to 70 MPH on snow covered curvy roads! They even got up to 94 MPH a few times on straight stretches.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 15: Any part of the street is fair game for a Russian driver. They drive on both sides of the road and the middle.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 16: Russians drink everything out of tea cups. No Glasses or plastic. Just small tea cups.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 17: Never ever wear your shoes in a Russian home under any circumstances. Hats also!

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 18: The EPA & PETA would go crazy here! Russians love to wear fur coats and hats. A lot of factories with smoke stacks pushing smoke out. The air is not very clean.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 19: Russians drink hot tea for every meal and then some. Every occasion and gathering calls for hot tea. Really there does not need to be an occasion to drink tea.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 20: Most Russians I have met are very hospitable and remind me of southern hospitality.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 21. They do not plow their streets like Americans do. The roads have a wall of snow on each side with tire tracks they drive through and the snow in the middle of the tracks drag the bottom of the cars.

Things I have learned about Russian culture part 22: People walk down the middle of the roads and drivers don't slow down or swerve to miss them.

Things I have learned about Russian Culture part 22: Russian Taxi drivers are very prompt. As soon as you call them they are there. We never had to wait on them they were usually waiting on us.

Things I have learned about Russian Culture Part 23: Less than 50 percent of Russians own cars. They walk or take public transportation everywhere.

Things I have learned about Russian Culture Part 24: Russian busses are either too hot or too cold. If they are hot you will get motion sickness with all the bumps. If they are cold they are the temperature outside which was around 0 degree’s F. or less at times. Russian trains are cold also! Brrrrrrrrrrr!

We did our first event in 2010 in Marianna, FL at the West FL District AG Kids Convention. It was awesome to see so many children with talents during their Performing Arts Program on Friday night. Many of the performances by children in the West FL district were very heart touching. It was awesome to see elementary age children using their talents for Jesus.

During our Ministry time on Saturday Jan. 23rd, we saw around 70 children born again and many children called to ministry. It was around 70 degrees in FL while we were there, and I got to wear my shorts and a t-shirt several days.

From FL we traveled to Duncan, OK to do two public school programs on Thursday Jan 28th and a Kids crusade at Bethel Church on Friday - Sunday. It was 67 degrees on Wednesday, January 27th when we arrived in OK. Over night the Temp. dropped to 30 degrees.

On Thursday, Jan 28th we did our first public school program in the Duncan public schools with around 700 children in attendance when an ice storm came in and caused the cancellation of the second program. We tore down our equipment at the school and went to Bethel Church to set up for the weekend events. In the middle of setup the electric went off in the entire town of Duncan due to the ice storm. We were hoping that it would come back on before the next day so we could continue setting up. However, the ice kept accumulating until there was over an inch of ice covering everything. After spending the night in our hotel with no electric and finding out that the electric in Duncan would not be back on until after Monday the event had to be canceled.

Due to the ice and snow storm that spread from Oklahoma City to NC through the middle of the country we had to go south to interstate 20 to head home. This was very much out of the way and took us 2 days to get home. This trip is usually around 15 hours from Oklahoma City to home.

I leave for Russia in two weeks on February 12th and will be there until February 24th. During my time in Russia I will be ministering in several churches and orphanages and I will also be doing teacher training events for children's workers in local Russian churches.

We had an awesome year despite the bad economy. Our bookings were about half of what they usually are, however we still ministered over 100 times plus Sundays at our home church when we were not on the road. We ministered in 22 different churches plus 3 camps and one Kids Convention in 17 different states. We saw around 1,100 people born again during our events this year!

Taking the Good News to Russia in Feb. 2010

I have the opportunity to go to Russia on February 12 - 22, 2010. I will be going with my Church. While in Russia I will be conducting several children's ministry outreach events in churches and orphanages, as well as teacher training events for local Russian churches. This will be such an awesome opportunity to take the ministry of The Jubilee Gang to Russia and be a blessing to their children and children's workers.

I do not make it a habit to ask for money for the Jubilee Gang or us. I have always relied on what comes in for our events and the sales of our merchandise to support The Jubilee Gang. Merchandise sales and events have been way down this year because of the economy.

The cost of the Russia trip is $1800.00. I need around $1000.00 to come in to be able to go on this trip. If you would like to help me go on this trip or become a monthly supporter of this ministry we would deeply appreciate it.

This year we saw over 1000 people born again during our travels across America. Our bookings were about half of a normal year because of the economy. In 2008 we traveled 36,000 miles, ministered in 36 different churches in 22 states and saw over 2000 people born again. In 2007 We ministered 122 times in 41 churches in 21 states and saw 1683 people born again.

Since 1998 we have ministered in 38 States, Puerto Rico, and Canada in over 20 different denominations and a host of non denominational churches and have seen over 15,000 people born again during our events.

Children's Evangelists: a Dying Breed

In an age where the role of a children's evangelist has gone from a soul winning, bible teaching, encourager of the body, revivalist of sorts, to more of an entertainer that has a Christian theme. I have been forced to ask myself a few questions about the role of a Children's Evangelist in the post Christian America that we live in.

Let me start off by giving you a little bit of my background, and things I struggle with so you know where I am coming from.

I have been a children's pastor in a few different churches for a total of 9 years, a children's evangelist for 19 years, and have had a few volunteer positions during my over 23 years in ministry to children and youth. I have been blessed to see both sides of the fence which has helped me to be more understanding of the role of a Children's Pastor and local churches when I am ministering on the road. All of the churches I served at as a Children's Pastor, I could never afford to have children's evangelist in. Except for a few of my friends that I was not able to pay what they deserved, and one nationally know evangelist that came on love offering and travel because he was in the area. I always felt bad bringing someone in and not being able to bless them the way they should be.

In my early years as a Children's Evangelist I went through extreme poverty and hardships including getting my phone, electric, other necessities turned off, and my family going without all for the sake of the call.

I eventually had to make the decision, that if I was going to continue doing children's evangelism; I had to run the financial side of the ministry like a business. I was not ever going to put my family through this again.

I really struggle with having to charge churches what I do to have me come and minister. In bible collage we were taught not to charge for ministry, but we should trust God for what we needed to come in during the offering. If I did this I would not be able to survive, not because of God not being faithful but because churches and pastors really do not have any idea what it takes to run a ministry such as ours. When you take up an offering with children you get nickels, dimes, quarters, and a few dollar bills. In my early days as a Children's Evangelist we always came on love offering and barley ever broke even on most events. I struggle to keep my prices down, however with all the equipment I tote around I have been forced to charge higher prices than most. When I was a Children's Pastor I could never have afforded to have my ministry come in. So, I understand what a lot of Children's Pastors are going through with low budgets.

I have struggled with the fact that I must offer a program that is a few steps above what most churches can offer their children. One time I had a church on the west coast call and want me to come to their church to minister. This was one of my first contacts from the west coast quite a few years ago. I asked if they could fly me out there. In the back of my head I was wondering if my transportation at the time would make the trip. Their response was that if I did not bring my equipment they did not want me. One of the secrets to my success is that I have been able to invest in awesome equipment that makes our program more spectacular. At the same time I wonder why we as the body cannot just see the call on a persons life instead of forcing a person to have a bigger than life persona with a rock star performance and all the bells and whistles. Don't get me wrong, I love all the stuff but it's truly all about the ministry for me. Reaching the lost and touching lives is what it is all about.

On the flip side when I was Children's Pastor the few times I had bigger name evangelist in, my workers came to me afterword and thought what we did in children's church was better than the program the nationally known speaker presented. After a while I did not have speakers come in that could not out top what we did, or offer something that I could not do myself, however I could not afford the speakers that was bigger and better.

I struggle with the promotional end of the ministry also, having to sale yourself to get a meeting, having to look bigger and better than the rest, and not looking too much like another ministry because they feel your trying to steel their corner of the market. God has given me a gift for promotion, and I have always been successful in promoting whatever I have been involved in whether it was business or ministry. I do not like the idea of being in competition with other Children's Evangelist.

Hopefully, we are all in this for the same reason, winning souls and encouraging believers. There are too many children that are not born again and not enough people reaching them to be in any kind of competition. We try our best to reach out to other Children's Evangelist and be a blessing to them as much as possible no matter what church affiliation they are. Some we have been able to establish relationships with and others have not responded for various reasons.

Saying all this I have asked myself and a few others the following questions.

1. Why isn't there more Children's Evangelist? A lot of times we hear from churches we minister in that it is hard to find good quality Children's Evangelist.
2. Why doesn't more Children's Evangelist stay on the road very long? I have seen a lot of very talented, gifted, and anointed children's ministers try to break into traveling and do not last but a few years. Or they are on and off the road every few years.
3. Why do churches need Children's Evangelist?
4. Where is the role of a Children's Evangelist going in the next 10 years?
5. Is the concept of a kid's crusade becoming a thing of the past?
6. What is the most effective way to reach un reached children with the message of the gospel?

To answer the first and second questions it mostly comes to finances. I asked a few of my Children's Evangelist friends and Children's Ministry leaders that use to travel and on the top of everyone's list was lack of finances. As I said above when I first started out I went through extreme poverty and lack that I would not wish on my worst enemy. One time I had a pastor where I was ministering feel so sorry for me because of the cloths I was wearing that he went to his closet and brought me 2 shirts for me to wear. In the early days we looked like the rag muffin team that traveled in a hooptie van you would see down by the river with gypsies living in it.
We sat in the front of the van and put all of our equipment in the back. Praise God we have come a long way! I thank God every time I get into my suburban and load my equipment into my trailer.

I see a lot of my Children's Evangelist friends going through extreme poverty now. Some of them are pioneers of what I am doing. They have given their entire lives to reaching children and now that they are older they have nothing, no insurance, no retirement, no home, nor finances. Some have sold their houses and traveled in motor homes that finally gave out because of all the miles they have put on them.

Now they are forgotten about by the church world and cannot seem to get enough meetings to live off of. Yet, they still have a heart for reaching children. No church will hire them despite of their years of experience because they are older now and churches want younger people for Children's Pastors.

I ask myself, how long I can keep my schedule full. How long can I keep this pace up? Will I end up like a lot of my predecessors, older, outdated, and forgotten about with no insurance or retirement?

Even though we charge what I am sure seems like a lot to a smaller and medium size churches we still struggle to make it sometimes. We get a few meetings a month from February through May, and then we do back to back meetings from June through September or October, and then come home and have to be so tight financially that we cannot afford do anything except work and get ready for the next years tour. Our fuel cost alone in 2008 was over $14,000, plus all the other cost in what we do. We have very few monthly supporters. Less than 5 people give $25.00 per month to our ministry. Occasionally, we receive a larger one time gift from people. We try our best to work with churches to come on an amount they can afford if they cannot afford our suggested price, however with the bad economy more and more churches ask for a discount which makes me wonder how tight it will be next winter. Some years almost half of our bookings are discounted in one way or the other.

Then, the issue comes up that what I am offering has to be worth what I am charging, so we have to continue to get bigger and better which drives up the price more. I am not trying to cry a sob story by telling this information, just letting you know why more people do not do this.

The simple fact is that most churches do not have budgets for ministries such as ours, and if we scale down to where we can travel in a mini van no one will want us because we cannot do something that the local church cannot do themselves. I do not want to become an exclusive mega church ministry. We have and will continue to minister in mega churches, however the smaller churches are what really need our ministry the most.

The second reason there are not more Children's Evangelist or the reason they do not stay on the road very long is the toll on the family. It's a hard life that not many can handle. Having to live out of hotel rooms or motor homes, is more than most people can handle. Most people want more out of life which is understandable.

To answer the third question about why do churches need Children's Evangelist is a simple yet complex answer according to what church background you come from. To answer this question I will ask another question. Why do churches need adult evangelist? Like I said before according to your church affiliation the answer may very.

I once asked a pastor where I was on staff if we could have more of a budget to have in a Children's Evangelist. His answer was, "Why do we need a Children's Evangelist when we have one of the best on staff as a Children's Pastor." My answer to his question was "Why do we need to have Adult Evangelist when we have one of the best ministers in the world as Pastor here?" To which he had no answer. There will always be events where we will need special speakers for children the same as there will always be events for adults where we will need a special speaker. Some of these events include outreaches into the community, kid's camps, and meetings where children can receive a fresh fire from God.

My goal as a Children's Evangelist is to…

1. See as many people (men, woman, boys, girls and teens) as possible make a legitimate decision to follow Jesus and be born again.

2. Stir up believers to be all they can be for God and to reach out to the world around them with the love of Jesus, not only through preaching the word, but through developing the character of Christ in their lives.

3. Encourage churches and leaders to take their Children's Ministry to the next level by showing them what can be done through technology and new methods.

To answer the 4th and 5th questions about where do I see the role of the Children's Evangelist going in the next 10 years? And is the concept of kid's crusades becoming a thing of the past? I am not sure where it is going right now. It has seemed to be heading toward a more entertainment based concert type events with very little or no ministry that attract new families in to have a good time and hope they come back to visit the church for a regular service. However, I have been getting more and more calls lately from churches that have been trying this approach for a few years now and want something with more substance. I am happy that the tides are finally turning back to a more ministry based outreach. There is some truth in the "become all things to all men and show people that church is a fun place for families approach" and not a place where they will get bible thumped or dragged through the pit of hell to try and get them to convert to Christianity. It is true that it is the goodness of God that brings man to repentance. We must make church a fun place, keep up to date on culture and the changing world, and how to reach them. However, if we water down the message so that it is not offensive we will produce a generation a fluffy Christians with no spiritual back bone. Certain things about the Gospel are offensive to the American culture, for example, the blood of Jesus and the story of the Cross. But without this we cannot even be born again. I am not saying that we scare kids with bloody details; however we cannot get away from the truth of what we are about.

I personally believe we can be entertaining yet not water down the message or anointing. I have had churches ask me how God shows up at our events without praise and worship. Believe me if any of us could sing even halfway, I would have praise and worship during our events. My answer to this is every thing we do uplifts the name of Jesus and magnifies his word. How could he not show up? Plus, I thought The Holy Spirit was already here, or does he only hang out when we sing a song?

A Children's Evangelist must offer programs that are relative to the culture they are ministering to and a message that is not the same programs that every other Children's Evangelist has been preaching for years. When I develop a new program it usually comes from time spent with God and a topic that has been stirring in my heart for quit some time that I feel is something God wants to emphasize in the body as a whole. The theme and message always come first them we develop everything else around that central theme to reinforce the bible message. We cannot just present a hodge podge of stuff that do not fit together and then give an invitation to receive Christ at the end.

I do believe the concept of traditional kids' crusades is slowly becoming a thing of the past. I do think it is a better option than VBS if you are trying to reach the community? It is hard to compete with sports and other community activities in some communities. I have had churches have us in to minister and spend a lot of money on the event and have only a handful of children at the event because of sports or something else going on in their community. It might come down to lack of good planning, advertising, or organization, however I remember a day when if you had a really cool event at a church you could pack it out with kids and families. I encourage churches to get away from the term "kids Crusade" in their advertisement of our events. The un churched world today just do not understand what a kids crusade is. It sounds too much like the crusades of the dark ages for most un churched people today. I encourage them to use terms like; Kids Blast, Back to School Blitz, Summer Slam, Winter Jam, and family or kids explosion. I encourage them to be creative and think out of the box.

It's hard enough to get adults out to a week long revival or camp meeting these days much less have them drop off their kids and come back to pick them up for a children's event. It has to be sold to them as something they do not want to miss. Something that will not only be an awesome time but something that will change their lives. The days of doing a cute puppet skit and a few cool songs and object lessons are over. In order to get kids and families out for events it has to be something bigger and better. I am sad to say it, but most people will no show up out of hunger for more of God or his word any more.

I have often pondered the thought of doing large children's ministry events like "Acquire the Fire" on a children's ministry level where you have a central location where Children's Pastors and families bring their kids to a large event, however I am not sure it is possible without the proper adult supervision. I have done many large events with several thousand in attendance at churches with a lot of adult supervision that have almost been chaos. However, I have done other large meetings with several thousand in attendance in a church setting with the entire family sitting together where it went well. Another factor of crowd control was the amount of churched and un churched children in attendance. The more un churched children there are in a large event the louder it will be and the more movement around the auditorium. The more churched parents are in attendance with their children the less noise and movement. Saying this we do not want to exclude un churched children and families just because they do not know how to act in a service. They are the ones that need it the most.

A lot of my fellow Children's Evangelist and Children's Ministry friends suggested that we are moving more toward family events where the entire family is ministered to at the same time. I have wanted to break into this type of meeting for years; however getting most senior pastors to buy into the idea has been quit a challenge. Most senior pastors are reluctant to turn their pulpit over to a Children's Evangelist. Some times for good reason because some Children's Evangelist are so childish in their approach that many adults in attendance feel spoken down to or out of place.

And the last question, about how to most effectively reach un churched children with the message of the gospel. I personally believe the most effective way to reach the lost is to go where they are. Get involved in their lives and let them know you care. Then when the door is open share Jesus with them. Go into their communities and have services. Do not expect them to come to the church building. Most people that are not Christians will never come to church. Most un churched children in America have never been to church and if they have, they thought it was dead religion and did not want anything to do with it.

When we go to their communities and show them we truly love them enough to get outside of our comfort zone of the church building, then we will reap the harvest that is ripe. Crops do not come to the barn by themselves. The farmer has to go out to the fields and harvest the crops. Fish do not jump out of the lake and come running for the kitchen. You have to go catch them. The masses of people in this world that are not Christians will not come to church to receive Jesus. We must go where they are. Truly love on them and show them that we care. Then they might want what we have.

One person suggested that we train children to evangelize their peers. This is what they are doing at their church and it has been very successful. One young lady from her church saw several thousand of her peers born again before graduating high school.

We must also disciple these children and families that are born again during these outside the church outreach programs. Some of the ones that are reached will come to our church afterwards, however the most effective way to disciple them is by have a weekly meeting on their turf. Close to where they live. I know this concept is not much for church growth but we must be kingdom minded instead of church minded.

Some times I ask God why I couldn't have been an adult evangelist and fly in on an airplane with my bible and preach instead of driving over 40,000 miles a year and having to set up my equipment every three days. One time when I was complaining to the Lord I heard him say in my heart, "What you are doing is precious to me." I broke down in tears when I heard this. Children's ministry is precious to the Lord.

Seeing children born again and seeing them grow up spiritually until they look like Christ is precious to Him! Everything we go through, all the hardships, all the ups and downs is worth it when we hear the father say that what we are doing is precious to him.

I pray that God rises up a new generation of Children's Evangelist to take our place some day. Young men and women that not only know how to wow a crowd with all the latest and greatest methods, but take a no compromise approach to ministry and go in the power of the Holy Spirit and the word of God. I pray for a new generation of men and women that their only goal is wining souls at any cost.

I pray this does not come across as Jerry's soap box. I just want to answer a few questions I hear often and have asked myself and to be a voice for all those that have given themselves for children's evangelism.

30 people born again in San Antonio and Jubilee Gang Going to Russia in Feb. 2010

We had a great time in San Antonio, TX at A Place for Life on Oct. 31st. We saw around 30 people born again during this one day event.

We have seen 1070 people born again so far this year! Our next and last event for the year will be at Faith Fellowship in Sayreville, NJ on December 12 - 13.

On February 12 - 22, 2010, I will be going to Russia with my Church. While in Russia I will be conducting several children's ministry outreach events in churches and orphanages, as well as teacher training events for local Russian churches. This will be such an awesome opportunity to take the ministry of The Jubilee Gang to Russia and be a blessing to there children and children's workers.

Jubilee Gang Update for No Fear Night 2009

Dear Friends and Partners:

We had an awesome turn out for NO Fear Night 2009. The building was packed to capacity. Every seat in the house was filled, plus a bunch of kids on the floor down front and people standing everywhere possible including the hallway outside the auditorium.

We saw around 40 people come forward to be born again and many others raised their hands but did not come forward. Because of the size of the crowd it was nearly impossible for people to get out of their seats and come forward.

This morning we had a family service at Word of Faith Family Church in Springfield, OH and saw 8 more people come forward and give their lives to the Lord including 2 adults.

Next weekend we will be ministering at A Place for Life in San Antonio, TX on October 31st. http://www.placeforlife.org

Why Ministry?

Why are we in ministry?

Why set a goal to be in full time ministry?

I have a cousin that was a full time youth minister. Everyday at lunch he would go to the YMCA and play basketball with the youth from the church and community. One day one of his sons came to him and said, “Dad, I want to grow up and be a minister like you.” This made my cousin feel good that his son wanted to follow in his foot steps. As my cousin pursued this a little by asking his son why he wanted to be in ministry when he grew up? His bubble was popped when his son replied, “so I can get paid to play basketball everyday like you.” I do not think this was the answer my cousin was looking for.

A lot of times we want to be in ministry because it looks like an easy occupation. Any one with a successful ministry knows that ministry is spelled W.O.R.K.

A lot of times we want to be in ministry because our father and grandfather were in ministry before us, and we think we should follow in their footsteps. Some may think ministry looks glamorous from the outside. A lot of people see our ministry programs and say “Man I wish I could do this!” If they only had to walk in our shoes for a year the majority of them would want to quit. If all you see is our live ministry event it looks like a spectacular lifestyle. However, most people never see all the behind the scenes of the day to day lifestyle that being on the road consist of. A lot of young aspiring ministers that have gotten to travel with us as interns are very excited at first about getting to travel and use all of our equipment. At first their commits always are “Man when I get my own ministry I want equipment just like this.” About half way through the tour season the statements change to “I don’t think I want to do this when I have my own ministry. There is too much to set up and tear down. There is too much work involved. Too many hours spent traveling in a vehicle.“ If we do not have a genuine love for people and a desire to see the furtherance of the kingdom this lifestyle gets old real fast.

I believe we should ask ourselves periodically throughout our time in ministry why we are doing this. Over and over in the Bible we read that Jesus was moved with compassion when he ministered to people. When he healed the sick, when he raised the dead, when he multiplied the loaves and fishes to feed the multitude, and when he taught the crowds of people. The overwhelming love for people (compassion) was Jesus motivation to do what he did during his ministry on earth.

It was not that he felt it was his duty, it was not to make a name for himself, it
was not that it was the only thing he knew how to do, it was because he looked at the need and was moved with compassion. Compassion was the overwhelming love for people that motivated him to do something.

Why did God the father send his only son into the world to die on a cross? It was because he loved the world. He was moved with such an overwhelming love that he had to do something.

Our motivation in ministry should be the love God has put in our heart. The bible says in Romans 5:5 that the love of God has been put in our heart by the Holy Spirit. When we are born again we receive the life and nature of God. The Bible says in 1 John 4:8 that God is Love. It is his nature, His Character. When we are born again we are now born of God. His life and nature is inside of us.

1 John 4:7-11
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone
who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love
does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his
love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might
live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved
us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends,
since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

1 Pet 1:3 says God has given us all things that pertain to life and Godliness
(Godliness means having God like qualities) it’s up to us to allow this love to be the motivating factor of our lives.

2 Peter 1:4 says that we have been given exceeding great and precious
promises that through these we might become partakers of the divine
nature. What is the divine nature? 1 John 4:8 says that God is love. Where do
we find these great and precious promises? We find it in the Word of God, the
Bible.

As we renew our minds with God’s word it becomes part of our lives. The more it becomes part of our lives the more we become partakers of it. The Bible says in Romans 12:2 be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Be transformed into what? We should be transformed into the Image of Christ.

Eph. 4:15 says that we should grow up until we look like Christ. What does
Christ look like? He looks like the father and the father is Love. Let this
overwhelming love for people be the motivating factor in our lives and ministry.
We truly need to grow up until we look like Christ, so the world can see God in
our lives. Let us be moved with compassion when we see a need.

Love for people and the furtherance of God’s Kingdom should be the motivating factor in our lives and ministry. I have always said true ministry is reaching people and touching Lives. Everything else is just stuff we have to do.

Before I had my own ministry, before anyone knew who Jerry Moyer of the
Jubilee Gang was, and before anyone wanted to schedule us at their church, I did not wait on a big break. I did not hope that someday my schedule would be full. I starting going to the local housing projects in Southern Ohio because of the love in my heart for the people there. No one was reaching out to them and I saw a need. When I went to the local housing authority and asked if we could do a crusade in the projects, they told me that there had never been any preaching in the projects and there never would be.

I did not give up on what was in my heart to do. As I was reading the news paper one day, I saw where a professional base ball player had came back to our home town and started a anti drug program in the projects. I felt in my heart to go to that organization and tell them that the “Just say No” campaign was not working. Kids need something to say yes to so they can say no to drugs.

I offered to do an anti drug program for them that said say yes to Jesus so that you can say no to drugs. Anything to do with an anti drug message was welcome through this organization. Our first event in the local housing projects we saw around 100 people born again. This happened over and over in different projects around the area. Before long the projects were calling us.

As I put my hand to ministering in the local housing projects because of the love I had for the people God continued to open more and more doors to our ministry. First it was public schools. We offered them a free anti drug program in exchange for the use of the building that evening for a large event where we could present the Gospel. Our first public school outreach we had 250 children in the school and 180 people came out that night to hear the gospel. Almost every one of them came forward to be born again. Then, we opened our program up to churches and it has grown from there.

Let love be the motivating factor in everything we do. God has given us
everything we need. Its up to us to use it!

Taking the spiritual temperature of your ministry.

Are you a thermostat or a thermometer?

A thermometer reacts to the temperature of the room.
A thermostat sets the temperature in a room.

Do you set the spiritual climate in your class or do the children?

We as Christian leaders need to set the spiritual temperature for our classrooms whether we are a Sunday school teacher, Children’s Pastor, or volunteer children’s worker. It is important that when we enter a classroom that we are spiritually prepared to set the spiritual climate for the class. If not the child with the strongest personality will set that climate.

If a child experienced chaos on the way to the service they will bring chaos to the service. If everyone was up late the night before Sunday morning service and tired, the class will be unresponsive to the lesson.

However, if we enter the room spiritually charged and on fire about our lesson the excitement will spread. If we believe in what we are teaching and show excitement about the subject others will be excited also. True faith is contagious. When someone is so excited about what they believe that they speak about it in confidence with passion in their voice others will believe also. If we are not sure about what we are teaching and are reading it out of our lesson planner, the children will be board and not buy into what we are offering them. Confidence comes through knowing the material inside out. You need to know it so well you can present it without reading it.

I have notes every time I speak publicly, however notes are to glance at to keep me on tract so, I arrive at the planned destination. I can expound upon each point of my notes without reading them line for line, however my notes make sure I do not drift off course during my program. I can expound upon each point because the subject is in my heart. It is not something I am not sure about or do not know a lot about.

If we are not confident on our lesson it will show in our body language, tone of our voice, and all around presentation. We cannot give something we do not have. If it is not in our heart then we are just regurgitating an old cold lesson out of a book that really means nothing to us.

The reason young adults are leaving our churches by the droves when they are old enough to make the decision for themselves is that all they have heard their entire time growing up in church is old, cold, regurgitated material that is not relative. It does not apply to them. We have offered exciting programs with all the latest methods but have forgotten the message.

Teachers must be passionate about their faith and what they are teaching. Like I said before true faith is contagious. It spreads like a wild fire. When we hear someone with true heartfelt convictions, we want what they have. If we are around it long enough we will start to crave it. And when you crave something bad enough you do whatever it takes to get it.

Let’s turn up the spiritual temperature in our classrooms.

We have had an awesome week ministering in 2 different churches in GA & AL.

On July 20-22 We ministered at Hope & Life fellowship in Snellville, GA and on July 23-25 we ministered at
McCullough Christian Center in Atmore, AL

We saw 208 children born again during these 2 events this week! God is Good!

Tomorrow Sunday July 26th through Wed. June 29th we will be in Juniper, GA at Brown Springs Church of God at 7:00 each night. This will be a 10 day stretch that we will have ministered every day. Keep us in your prayers as we keep up this pace for a few more days until we get a break next weekend before heading out west to Bullhead City, AZ and Las Vegas, NV on Sunday Aug. 2nd.

Jubilee Gang Update for July 6-16 : 75 children born again

We have had an awesome 2 weeks ministering at camps.

On July 6-10 we ministered in Vassar, MI at the MI District Wesleyan Kids camp. God moved mightily in the services and we saw around 25 children born again and many lived touched during the Altar time. The Altars were packed each night with children seeking more of God.

We had an awesome time ministering at 2 different churches in LA this week. On June 5-7 we ministered at Calvary Christian Center in Hammond, LA and saw 62 children born again.

On June 9-11 we ministered at Bethany World Prayer Center in Baker, LA and saw 36 children born again.
We had an awesome time ministering at Bethany. On the opening night the Children's Pastor Tim Carpenter and myself got to repel from the 40 to 50 foot ceiling of the church to make our grand entrance. It was quite an experience.

We had an awesome weekend in Kansas City, KS ministering at Glad Tidings Assembly of God.The church bussed children in from the surrounding community and some under privileged communities. This was an awesome 3 day outreach event! During these 3 days in Kansas City we saw around 40 children born again.

We did a teacher training session on Saturday morning with around 20 children's workers present. It was a great time of encouragement and vision casting for all in attendance.

We had an awesome weekend ministering at Kidfest in Ocean City, Md. There was over 700 kids in attendance. We saw around 200 children come forward to be born again. The altars were packed each service with children seeking after a deeper relationship with God! It was awesome to see so many children hungry for God and crying out for more of Him. Why I still do altar calls or invitations to be born again.....

I realize that a lot of the church world has moved away from doing alter calls during their services. Many people have questioned why I continue to use this method of evangelism. Let me start off by stating a few things that I see that would cause leaders to shy away from this method.

1. I understand that just because someone comes forward during a service does not mean that a change has taken place in their lives and many people have walked away confused.

2. Another reason would be because of abuse in the past with high pressure and preaching of hell fire and brimstone that would scare people into coming to the front to receive Christ into their lives so that they would miss hell. When people are scared into coming forward it sometimes causes more harm than good.

3. I also realize that there is no biblical example of alter calls in the bible and that it is a method that the modern church world has adapted for evangelism.

Saying all this, I still like to invite people forward to receive Christ during my services. I am always sensitive to the churches that I am ministering in and the fear factor of the people in the audience to come forward. In some churches people are more reluctant to come forward to receive Christ. And when I sense they are, I usually just pray with people where they are in their seats.

When I do give an invitation to come forward to be born again, I almost discourage people from coming forward. Yet the front is always lined with people receiving Christ. I have been in many services in the past where young people went forward just to get close to the person on stage or hoping to get a special gift or something for coming forward. I have had children in the past come forward expecting to get candy or to play a game.

When I invite people to come to the front to receive Jesus and to be born again, I am very specific about who I want to come forward. I always tell the audience not to come forward to get close to me, see the lights, play a game, or get a prize. I tell them not to come forward because their neighbor does or they think it’s cool. The only people that I want to come forward are the ones that are serious and understand what I am talking about. I tell them that if they do not understand or are confused not to come forward.

I am also very specific about what being born again is during my service. I do not just tag an invitation on the end of each service as an afterthought. If I give an invitation to be born again, I spend a little time teaching on the subject.

I believe that faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). If the word is not taught on the subject, how can a person have faith to receive salvation? When an invitation is tagged on the end of each service without any explanation of what we are asking people to respond to, it has caused a lot of confusion in the past.

I am not saying that everyone that has been born again truly understood everything about salvation. God is much bigger than that. I was 6 years old when I was born again. I went forward on New Years Eve in my father’s church. No one even prayed with me but, I knew that I was changed that day. I went home and told my mother that I had become a Christian that night.

A lot of people in the world today have many misconceptions about being a Christian. Many believe that anything from being a good person to belonging to a church makes one a Christian.

In the past I have been accused of herding people to the front during invitations. This is why I have become so specific in whom I want to come forward. I also qualify people before I ask them to come forward. I first ask how many know for sure that they have been born again. With all eyes closed and heads bowed, I ask them to raise their hands. Then I tell them that if they have been born again that they do not have to keep being born again over and over. If they mess up and sin that the bible says in 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sin that he is faithful and just to forgive us. This does not mean that we have to keep getting born again and again.

Next, I ask how many have never been born again or are not sure that they have been. With all eyes closed and heads bowed, I ask them to raise their hands. Then I ask for the people that have never been born again and would like to receive this gift to stand up, but only if they are serious and understand what I am talking about. Don’t stand up because you want exercise, because your neighbor does it, or you think it is cool, but because you truly want to become born again.

After waiting a little while to give people a chance to stand up if they want to receive Christ, I then tell them that I want them to do one more thing. But before I do I tell them, I do not want them to come forward to get close to me, play a game, see the lights, or receive a prize. I ask them that if they are serious and understand what I am talking about to come forward. No pressure, no fear, no manipulation, only if this is what they truly want for their lives. 9 out of 10 times the front is lined with people receiving Christ. .

After I get them to the front, I sit them down on the floor around me and ask them what they came down here for. Usually a few children raise their hands and answer to be born again or to ask Jesus into my life. I then ask the group if this is why everyone came down front. I proceed to tell them that this is the only reason I want them down here right now. Then I tell them that I am going to say a prayer, and I want them to repeat it after me. I always ask them if they know that just because they repeat a prayer does not do anything for them. When we pray we are talking to God, so I want you to mean this from your heart. If you pray this to God, and you believe it in your heart, and are serious, he will come in and change you on the inside. I always include the whole audience in the prayer. And I tell all in attendance that even if they did not come forward and have not asked Jesus in their life, that they can be born again right where they are.

I never threaten with hell or in any way scare people into coming forward. I believe that it is the goodness of God that brings man to repentance. When people understand the good news of the gospel and that the price has already been paid for them, they will want to receive this gift that has been offered to them.

By coming forward it is making a public profession of their faith. It lets everyone there know what they did. People have more of a grip on it when they come forward than just repeating a prayer in their seats. It is a more personal environment where I can get close to them and lead them into salvation.

There is a new trend that teaches that it is the parent’s job to lead the children into the new birth. I do not disagree with this. Ultimately it should be the parent that prays with their children to be born again. I prayed with my son to be born again while driving in a car when he was just a child. But to be honest about this, a lot of parents do not have a firm grip on what being born again is themselves, or are not comfortable discussing it with their children. I pray that this changes.

If we always put it in the parents ball park and they drop the ball, or maybe they are not even born again themselves, or they do not go to church themselves, do we let these children creep through the cracks of our system? There must be a time where children have a chance to be born again while they are attending our services. It must be high on our priority list for children coming up through our churches.

I am in no means saying that this is the only way or even the best way to lead people to the Lord, but it is what works for me. The best way would be for churches to go into their communities and personally lead people to the lord individually. If every person in every church would lead at least one or two people to the lord each year our churches would double or triple each year. Unfortunately, this is not happening. Even in churches that teach this method of evangelism or was founded on the premise of personal evangelism. Somewhere it always seems we loose our site of the mission in front of us and leave it up to evangelist like myself, to come into the church and evangelize the small group of the community that will come out to the event that the church is offering.

I pray we as the body of Christ will rise up and take back this generation.

Over 300 people born again in Sayreville, NJ

We conducted our last event for 2008 today in Sayreville, NJ, at Faith Fellowship. Around 2500 people were in attendance at this Christmas outreach event. We saw over 300 people come forward to be born again during this one day event.

After our ministry time was over each child received lunch and a $20.00 gift from the church. It was awesome to partner with Faith Fellowship to see so many lives touched during this Christmas season.

We have traveled over 36,000 miles this year, ministered in 37 different churches, and saw over 2000 people born again. God is Good!

There is much confusion today about what it means to be a Christian. It is very important that what we teach children about their relationship with God is accurate. When we just teach children that salvation is “being friends with God” or “having Jesus as their best friend” we are not exactly presenting the full scope of what being a Christian really is. I can be friends with you, but it does not change my life for eternity. It does not give me eternal life. Yes, Jesus should be our best friend and we need to develop our relationship with God but that is a byproduct of the change that occurs in our heart when we are born again.

Some misconceptions in our society about being a Christian are that going to church makes one a Christian, praying and reading the bible makes one a Christian, being born in a Christian family or attending a Christian church makes one a Christian. Or even being religious, following a churches statement of faith, rules, or regulations, or just being a good person makes one a Christian. Most of these things are good and help us grow spiritually, but do not make one a Christian.

When a religious leader came to Jesus in John chapter 3 he asked Jesus what I must do to enter your kingdom. Jesus did not say belong to a certain church, obey more rules, or become more religious. He told Nicodemus you must be born again.

Now there has been a lot of confusion about what exactly being born again is. Is it just a decision to follow Christ, or is it a transformation of the heart of a person?

If it is no more than making a decision to follow Christ without a change on the inside being a Christian is no different than being a Buddhist, Hindu, or Muslim. It is simply just a religion that we have joined.

What sets Christianity apart from all other religions is the supernatural change that takes place in our spirit man. This is the good news. We do not have to serve God in our own power. He changes us on the inside and gives us his very life and nature so that we can serve him. Its not just rules and regulations he puts the law in our heart when he puts his love in our heart. Rom. 5:5 says that the love of God has been put in our heart by the Holy Spirit. The bible also says that Love is the fulfillment of the law. If we love God and our neighbor we have fulfilled the law.

In Ezek 36:26-28 Ezekiel prophesied “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.“ Here Ezekiel was talking about the change that would take place in the lives of believers after Jesus came and paid the price for our salvation.

I know the term “born again” was over used a few years ago when everyone from presidential candidates to movie stars said they were born again Christians. The term got drug through the mud and no one really knew what it meant, so we quit using it. The world asked what does “Born Again Christian” mean and no one knew, so we came up with terms like having Jesus in our heart and being friends with God.

When Adam ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and disobeyed God something happened to Adam. He died. Not physically because we know from scripture that he lived for many years after the fall. He died spiritually. He was separated from God. When this happened he laid the foundation for all man kind to be born separated from God or dead spiritually.

That’s why the bible calls him the first Adam and calls Jesus the second Adam in 1 Cor. 15:45. In 1 Cor. 15:22 the bible says as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.

As in the word of the Christian rapper, Tripp Lee “The bad news we were born in sin, The good news we can be born again.”

In order to be restored to the place where God had created us to be we needed a total transformation of our spirit man or be born again. When we receive Christ we are born into God’s family. We are not just adopted but born into it.

The Bible says in 1 Cor. 1:13 that we were delivered out of the kingdom of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God. Or in other words, we are taken out of the kingdom of darkness and put into the kingdom of God. When I see this word translated I always think of the transporter room in the old Star Trek program. We were taken from one place and put into another into another.

The bible also says in 2 Cor 5:17 that if we are in Christ we are a new creation. Old things have passed away, all things have become new. This does not simply sound like a decision to follow Christ or being friends with God to me. It sounds like a total transformation of the heart.

With out this change in our spirit man we have simply became religious or joined a religion. Without the supernatural element of being born again we have a form of Godliness but deny the power. We have dead religion that we have to strive to be good enough and follow the rules and regulations. When the good news is that Jesus paid the price with his blood on the cross for our salvation, and all we have to do is receive the free gift that God offers us.

Without the blood of Jesus being shed we cannot be born again. Today, we live in a bloodless society. We don’t even see our meat being processed any more. We only see the pre packaged meat that we buy in the store. But Christianity is a bloody religion. From the sacrifices of the Old Testament that God commanded to cover the sin of Israel to the Blood of Jesus being shed to take away our sin in the New Testament. The Bible says in Heb. 9:22 without the shedding of blood there is no remission or taking away of sin.

Now, I am not talking about being graphic and gory with children. I would never scare a child for anything. But we cannot leave the blood out of our faith or teaching. It is the very basic element of our faith. That’s why Jesus commanded us to takes the Lord’s Supper or communion was to put us in remembrance of his sacrifice for us.

I am not a huge fan of the term “having Jesus in our heart” either. The Bible says that Jesus is at the right hand of the father making intercession for us in Romans 8:34. I understand what we mean when we say that Jesus is living in our heart but Jesus himself is not living in us. His life and nature is in us. His character is in us. The love of God is in us. The 1 Cor. 13 kind of love is what is in us.

I realize that some of this is quit technical and is not presented on a Child’s level. Instead of talking about our nature being changed from sin to love, I talk about when Adam disobeyed God he received a sinful heart. We all are born with a sinful heart because of Adam’s disobedience. He represented all of us. When we are born again we receive a clean heart. I then explain what this means on a child’s level.

I had heard the terms Jesus died on the cross for our sin, born again, being saved, and all the other Christian terminology that is thrown around lightly my entire life growing up as a pastor’s child. But I did not understand it, until I became an adult and researched it out for my self. Sadly to say that many people grow up in our churches hearing these terms and never fully understand it. Then walk away from the faith because it was not presented in a way that made sense to them when they were older. It was presented like a fairy tale or Santa Claus and when they were old enough to think for their selves, they realize it did not make sense and walked away from the faith.

We as the body of Christ need to get back to teaching what “being born again is” so that the children and teens growing up in our churches understand it. If not when they become adults they will see no difference in Christianity, Buddhism, or Hinduism and will walk away from their faith and the church.

Children's Evangelists: a Dying Breed

In an age where the role of a children's evangelist has gone from a soul winning, bible teaching, encourager of the body, revivalist of sorts, to more of an entertainer that has a Christian theme. I have been forced to ask myself a few questions about the role of a Children's Evangelist in the post Christian America that we live in.

Let me start off by giving you a little bit of my background, and things I struggle with so you know where I am coming from.

I have been a children's pastor in a few different churches for a total of 8 years, a children's evangelist for 18 years, and have had a few volunteer positions during my over 22 years in ministry to children and youth. I have been blessed to see both sides of the fence which has helped me to be more understanding of the role of a Children's Pastor and local churches when I am ministering on the road. All of the churches I served at as a Children's Pastor, I could never afford to have children's evangelist in. Except for a few of my friends that I was not able to pay what they deserved, and one nationally know evangelist that came on love offering and travel because he was in the area. I always felt bad bringing someone in and not being able to bless them the way they should be.

In my early years as a Children's Evangelist I went through extreme poverty and hardships including getting my phone, electric, other necessities turned off, and my family going without all for the sake of the call.

I eventually had to make the decision, that if I was going to continue doing children's evangelism; I had to run the financial side of the ministry like a business. I was not ever going to put my family through this again.

I really struggle with having to charge churches what I do to have me come and minister. In bible collage we were taught not to charge for ministry, but we should trust God for what we needed to come in during the offering. If I did this I would not be able to survive because churches and pastors really do not have any idea what it takes to run a ministry such as ours. When you take up an offering with children you get nickels and dimes and a few dollar bills. In my early days as a Children's Evangelist we always came on love offering and barley ever broke even on most events. I struggle to keep my prices down, however with all the equipment I tote around I have been forced to charge higher prices than most. When I was a Children's Pastor I could never have afforded to have my ministry come in. So, I understand what a lot of Children's Pastors are going through with low budgets.

I have struggled with the fact that I must offer a program that is a few steps above what most churches can offer their children. One time I had a church on the west coast call and want me to come to their church to minister. This was one of my first contacts from the west coast quite a few years ago. I asked if they could fly me out there. In the back of my head I was wondering if my transportation at the time would make the trip. Their response was that if I did not bring my equipment they did not want me. One of the secrets to my success is that I have been able to invest in awesome equipment that makes our program more spectacular. At the same time I wonder why we as the body cannot just see the call on a persons life instead of forcing a person to have a bigger than life persona with a rock star performance and all the bells and whistles. Don't get me wrong, I love all the stuff but it's truly all about the ministry for me. Reaching the lost and touching lives is what it is all about.

On the flip side when I was Children's Pastor the few times I had bigger name evangelist in, my workers came to me afterword and thought what we did in children's church was better than the program the nationally known speaker presented. After a while I did not have speakers come in that could not out top what we did, or offer something that I could not do myself, however I could not afford the speakers that was bigger and better.

I struggle with the promotional end of the ministry also, having to sale yourself to get a meeting, having to look bigger and better than the rest, and not looking too much like another ministry because they feel your trying to steel their corner of the market. God has given me a gift for promotion, and I have always been successful in promoting whatever I have been involved in whether it was business or ministry. I do not like the idea of being in competition with other Children's Evangelist.

Hopefully, we are all in this for the same reason, winning souls and encouraging believers. There are too many children that are not born again and not enough people reaching them to be in any kind of competition. We try our best to reach out to other Children's Evangelist and be a blessing to them as much as possible no matter what church affiliation they are. Some we have been able to establish relationships with and others have not responded for various reasons.

Saying all this I have asked myself and a few others the following questions.

1. Why isn't there more Children's Evangelist? A lot of times we hear from churches we minister in that it is hard to find good quality Children's Evangelist.
2. Why doesn't more Children's Evangelist stay on the road very long? I have seen a lot of very talented, gifted, and anointed children's ministers try to break into traveling and do not last but a few years. Or they are on and off the road every few years.
3. Why do churches need Children's Evangelist?
4. Where is the role of a Children's Evangelist going in the next 10 years?
5. Is the concept of a kid's crusade becoming a thing of the past?
6. What is the most effective way to reach un reached children with the message of the gospel?

To answer the first and second questions it mostly comes to finances. I asked a few of my Children's Evangelist friends and Children's Ministry leaders that use to travel and on the top of everyone's list was lack of finances. As I said above when I first started out I went through extreme poverty and lack that I would not wish on my worst enemy. One time I had a pastor where I was ministering feel so sorry for me because of the cloths I was wearing that he went to his closet and brought me 2 shirts for me to wear. In the early days we looked like the rag muffin team that traveled in a hooptie van you would see down by the river with gypsies living in it.
We sat in the front of the van and put all of our equipment in the back. Praise God we have come a long way! I thank God every time I get into my suburban and load my equipment into my trailer.

I see a lot of my Children's Evangelist friends going through extreme poverty now. Some of them are pioneers of what I am doing. They have given their entire lives to reaching children and now that they are older they have nothing, no insurance, no retirement, no home, nor finances. Some have sold their houses and traveled in motor homes that finally gave out because of all the miles they have put on them.

Now they are forgotten about by the church world and cannot seem to get enough meetings to live off of. Yet, they still have a heart for reaching children. No church will hire them despite of their years of experience because they are older now and churches want younger people for Children's Pastors.

I ask myself, how long I can keep my schedule full. How long can I keep this pace up? Will I end up like a lot of my predecessors, older, outdated, and forgotten about with no insurance or retirement?

Even though we charge what I am sure seems like a lot to a smaller and medium size churches we still struggle to make it sometimes. We get a few meetings a month from February through May, and then we do back to back meetings from June through September or October, and then come home and have to be so tight financially that we cannot afford do anything except work and get ready for the next years tour. Our fuel cost alone in 2007 was over $12,000, plus all the other cost in what we do. We have very few monthly supporters. Less than 5 people give $25.00 per month to our ministry. Occasionally, we receive a larger one time gift from people. We try our best to work with churches to come on an amount they can afford if they cannot afford our suggested price, however with each year more and more churches ask for a discount which makes me wonder how tight it will be next winter.

Then, the issue comes up that what I am offering has to be worth what I am charging, so we have to continue to get bigger and better which drives up the price more. I am not trying to cry a sob story by telling this information, just letting you know why more people do not do this.

The simple fact is that most churches do not have budgets for ministries such as ours, and if we scale down to where we can travel in a mini van no one will want us because we cannot do something that the local church cannot do themselves. I do not want to become an exclusive mega church ministry. We have and will continue to minister in mega churches, however the smaller churches are what really need our ministry the most.

The second reason there are not more Children's Evangelist or the reason they do not stay on the road very long is the toll on the family. It's a hard life that not many can handle. Having to live out of hotel rooms or motor homes, is more than most people can handle. Most people want more out of life which is understandable.

To answer the third question about why do churches need Children's Evangelist is a simple yet complex answer according to what church background you come from. To answer this question I will ask another question. Why do churches need adult evangelist? Like I said before according to your church affiliation the answer may very.

I once asked a pastor where I was on staff if we could have more of a budget to have in a Children's Evangelist. His answer was, "Why do we need a Children's Evangelist when we have one of the best on staff as a Children's Pastor." My answer to his question was "Why do we need to have Adult Evangelist when we have one of the best ministers in the world as Pastor here?" To which he had no answer. There will always be events where we will need special speakers for children the same as there will always be events for adults where we will need a special speaker. Some of these events include outreaches into the community, kid's camps, and meetings where children can receive a fresh fire from God.

My goal as a Children's Evangelist is to…

1. See as many people (men, woman, boys, girls and teens) as possible make a legitimate decision to follow Jesus and be born again.

2. Stir up believers to be all they can be for God and to reach out to the world around them with the love of Jesus, not only through preaching the word, but through developing the character of Christ in their lives.

3. Encourage churches and leaders to take their Children's Ministry to the next level by showing them what can be done through technology and new methods.

To answer the 4th and 5th questions about where do I see the role of the Children's Evangelist going in the next 10 years? And is the concept of kid's crusades becoming a thing of the past? I am not sure where it is going right now. It has seemed to be heading toward a more entertainment based concert type events with very little or no ministry that attract new families in to have a good time and hope they come back to visit the church for a regular service. However, I have been getting more and more calls lately from churches that have been trying this approach for a few years now and want something with more substance. I am happy that the tides are finally turning back to a more ministry based outreach. There is some truth in the "become all things to all men and show people that church is a fun place for families approach" and not a place where they will get bible thumped or dragged through the pit of hell to try and get them to convert to Christianity. It is true that it is the goodness of God that brings man to repentance. We must make church a fun place, keep up do date on culture and the changing world, and how to reach them. However, if we water down the message so that it is not offensive we will produce a generation a fluffy Christians with no spiritual back bone. Certain things about the Gospel are offensive to the American culture, for example, the blood of Jesus and the story of the Cross. But without this we cannot even be born again. I am not saying that we scare kids with bloody details; however we cannot get away from the truth of what we are about.

I personally believe we can be entertaining yet not water down the message or anointing. I have had churches ask me how God shows up at our events without praise and worship. Believe me if any of us could sing even halfway, I would have praise and worship during our events. My answer to this is every thing we do uplifts the name of Jesus and magnifies his word. How could he not show up? Plus, I thought The Holy Spirit was already here, or does he only hang out when we sing a song?

A Children's Evangelist must offer programs that are relative to the culture they are ministering to and a message that is not the same programs that every other Children's Evangelist has been preaching for years. When I develop a new program it usually comes from time spent with God and a topic that has been stirring in my heart for quit some time that I feel is something God wants to emphasize in the body as a whole. The theme and message always come first them we develop everything else around that central theme to reinforce the bible message.

I do believe the concept of traditional kids' crusades is slowly becoming a thing of the past. I do think it is a better option than VBS if you are trying to reach the community? It is hard to compete with sports and other community activities in some communities. I have had churches have us in to minister and spend a lot of money on the event and have only a handful of children at the event because of sports or something else going on in their community. It might come down to lack of good planning, advertising, or organization, however I remember a day when if you had a really cool event at a church you could pack it out with kids and families. I encourage churches to get away from the term "kids Crusade" in their advertisement of our events. The un churched world today just do not understand what a kids crusade is. It sounds too much like the crusades of the dark ages for most un churched people today. I encourage them to use terms like; Kids Blast, Back to School Blitz, Summer Slam, Winter Jam, and family or kids explosion. I encourage them to be creative and think out of the box. It's hard enough to get adults out to a week long revival or camp meeting these days much less have them drop off their kids and come back to pick them up for a children's event. It has to be sold to them as something they do not want to miss. Something that will not only be an awesome time but something that will change their lives. The days of doing a cute puppet skit and a few cool songs and object lessons are over. In order to get kids and families out for events it has to be something bigger and better. I am sad to say it, but most people will no show up out of hunger for more of God or his word any more.

I have often pondered the thought of doing large children's ministry events like "Acquire the Fire" on a children's ministry level where you have a central location where Children's Pastors and families bring their kids to a large event, however I am not sure it is possible without the proper adult supervision. I have done many large events with several thousand in attendance at churches with a lot of adult supervision that have almost been chaos. However, I have done other large meetings with several thousand in attendance in a church setting with the entire family sitting together where it went well. Another factor of crowd control was the amount of churched and un churched children in attendance. The more un churched children there are in a large event the louder it will be and the more movement around the auditorium. The more churched parents are in attendance with their children the less noise and movement. Saying this we do not want to exclude un churched children and families just because they do not know how to act in a service. They are the ones that need it the most.

A lot of my fellow Children's Evangelist and Children's Ministry friends suggested that we are moving more toward family events where the entire family is ministered to at the same time. I have wanted to break into this type of meeting for years; however getting most senior pastors to buy into the idea has been quit a challenge. Most senior pastors are reluctant to turn their pulpit over to a Children's Evangelist. Some times for good reason because some Children's Evangelist are so childish in their approach that many adults in attendance feel spoken down to or out of place.

And the last question, about how to most effectively reach un churched children with the message of the gospel. I personally believe the most effective way to reach the lost is to go where they are. Get involved in their lives and let them know you care. Then when the door is open share Jesus with them. Go into their communities and have services. Do not expect them to come to the church building. Most people that are not Christians will never come to church. Most un churched children in America have never been to church and if they have, they thought it was dead religion and did not want anything to do with it.

When we go to their communities and show them we truly love them enough to get outside of our comfort zone of the church building, then we will reap the harvest that is ripe. Crops do not come to the barn by themselves. The farmer has to go out to the fields and harvest the crops. Fish do not jump out of the lake and come running for the kitchen. You have to go catch them. The masses of people in this world that are not Christians will not come to church to receive Jesus. We must go where they are. Truly love on them and show them that we care. Then they might want what we have.

One person suggested that we train children to evangelize their peers. This is what they are doing at their church and it has been very successful. One young lady from her church saw several thousand of her peers born again before graduating high school.

We must also disciple these children and families that are born again during these outside the church outreach programs. Some of the ones that are reached will come to our church afterwards, however the most effective way to disciple them is by have a weekly meeting on their turf. Close to where they live. I know this concept is not much for church growth but we must be kingdom minded instead of church minded.

Some times I ask God why I couldn't have been an adult evangelist and fly in on an airplane with my bible and preach instead of driving over 40,000 miles a year and having to set up my equipment every three days. One time when I was complaining to the Lord I heard him say in my heart, "What you are doing is precious to me." I broke down in tears when I heard this. Children's ministry is precious to the Lord.

Seeing children born again and seeing them grow up spiritually until they look like Christ is precious to Him! Everything we go through, all the hardships, all the ups and downs is worth it when we hear the father say that what we are doing is precious to him.

I pray that God rises up a new generation of Children's Evangelist to take our place some day. Young men and women that not only know how to wow a crowd with all the latest and greatest methods, but take a no compromise approach to ministry and go in the power of the Holy Spirit and the word of God. I pray for a new generation of men and women that their only goal is wining souls at any cost.

I pray this does not come across as Jerry's soap box. I just want to answer a few questions I hear often and have asked myself and to be a voice for all those that have given themselves for children's evangelism.
